Cal State Bakersfield Athletics named Jenny Topping as the new leader of the Roadrunner Softball Program.
Topping has a deep softball resume. She is a four-time first team All-American with Washington and Cal State Fullerton with outstanding stats throughout her career. At Washington, she earned All Pac-10 honors along with Pac-10 newcomer of the year. She set the Washington record for RBI’s, home runs, slugging percentage, and grand slams in a year.
However, her achievements didn’t stop at Washington. At Fullerton, Topping ranked in the top 10 nationally in RBI’s, home runs, and walks. In her three years at Fullerton she won three consecutive Big West Titles.
In addition to her impressive achievements throughout college, she made the United States National Softball Team and won an Olympic gold medal at the 2004 Olympics.
“As an Olympic athlete, I’m excited to bring elite skill development and championship-level mental performance training to CSUB, helping athletes move beyond fear, trust their preparation, and access the zone when it matters most.” stated Topping. “We will build a championship culture rooted in connection, belief, and growth that makes the entire Roadrunner community proud.”
She spent the 2025 season at Oregon State as an assistant coach as well as a hitting, and catching coach. Before that, she was on the coaching staff of Cal State Fullerton as the Player Development Assistant where the Titans went 37-17.
With Topping now CSUB’s head coach, she is in charge of a softball program that went 10-40 last season. The `Runners battled with an 8-19 against Big West opponents and were one conference series win away from qualifying for the Big West Softball Championships.
“CSUB has a proud softball tradition, and I’m excited to help lead the next chapter of Roadrunner Softball,” said Topping.
