Cal State Bakersfield is getting a deal done with USC assistant coach Todd Lee to become the next head basketball coach of the university per Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports
Todd Lee was a former assistant coach at CSUB from 1994 to 1997 where he helped lead the ‘Runners 1997 Division II National Championship. Todd Lee has been around for a long time working with big names like Eric Musselman who is the current head coach at USC before he got his first head coaching opportunity.
In 2005, Lee was named as the head coach of the Kentucky Wesleyan program. A program that was in disarray due to a number of recruiting violations and he turned that program around leading them to the Division II NCAA Tournament five times. He stayed with that program until 2013 when he was offered to join the Grand Canyon Antelopes as an assistant coach.
On April 4, 2018 Lee was introduced as the South Dakota Coyotes head coach and stayed there for four seasons holding a record of 66-52. He was named Summit League Coach of the Year in the 2020-2021 season. He was fired at the end of the 2022 season. He was hired as an assistant coach for the 2022-2023 season for the Arkansas Razorbacks and eventually followed Musselman to USC in 2024.
“We are going to build this program back to when we were winning championships,” said Todd Lee at the introductory press conference. Lee also mentioned in his press conference on getting involved with the community with holding youth basketball camps to get people to go to CSUB basketball games.
Todd Lee is given another chance to be a head coach with some familiarity with the ‘Roadrunners as he will be the 10th head coach in CSUB history. Coach Lee in his final remarks said “We are going to build something special together I can promise you that.”
