The 2026 NCAA Division One Men’s Basketball tournament has made it to the Sweet 16 as we figure out which teams will survive and advance to the Elite Eight. San Jose will host two games Thursday, March 25, as we try to determine whether Texas, Purdue, Arkansas or Arizona will move on.
The first game to tip off is the matchup between the Texas Longhorns and the Purdue Boilermakers. Texas is heading into this game on a three-game winning streak that started in Dayton, Ohio, at the First Four. Their biggest upset is against Gonzaga in the Second Round, where Texas stunned the `Zags, beating them 74-68.
On the other hand, Purdue is heading into this game with a win against Miami (Fla.). The Boilermakers will be seeing a familiar foe in Camden Heide, who played at Purdue from 2023 to 2025. Purdue’s six-game winning streak is heavily influenced by its seniors, as they have averaged 60 points a game.
It’s a great head coaching matchup between Matt Painter and Sean Miller. This game will tell us if the underdog run can continue or if the Boilermakers have what it takes to make it to the Elite Eight.
Matt Painter, talking about Texas head coach Sean Miller, said, “he’s a great coach. You know what you’re going to get from one of his teams. You know you’re going to earn your victory if you can get there because they are going to play hard.”
The second game of the night is an incredible matchup between the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Arizona Wildcats. Arkansas is coming into the game with a close win over High Point. Daris Acuff Jr. had 36 points in that game and he’s going to be a key part of the game.
Arizona is coming into this matchup with a win over Utah State. Although they had a quick lead in the game Utah State was back in the game toward the end. The Wildcats have size over the Razorbacks.
Only time will tell how these matchups go, but the whole country will be watching on CBS.
