Cal State Bakersfield gets its second dual win of the year as they sweep Westcliff University. The setting of the dual was already new for both teams as it took place at the Main Soccer Field, which is a yearly tradition for the wrestling program. To add even more meaning to the dual, it was senior night for six wrestlers.
To say the Runners “showed out” was an understatement. They had their first shutout in a wrestling dual in 11 years. The dual was against Grand Canyon, where they won 43-0.
This year’s squad blew that shutout out of the water. Five Roadrunners were able to secure pins on Westcliff wrestlers. Redshirt sophomore Coen Quintana had the most impressive pin as he secured the fall 32 seconds into the match.
The other wrestlers that were able to secure pins were Richard Castro-Sandoval (4:26), Hayden Zinkin (2:14), Chris Neal (3:39), and Mason Cover (4:32).
CSUB also enjoyed earning extra points from RJ Jones (Tech Fall6:07), Devyn Flores-Che (TF 6:36), and Guillermo Escobedo (TF 6:28)
Although Westcliff is just a school from the National Athletic of Interscholastic Athletics, it’s good to see the team assert its authority. The road doesn’t get any easier for the Roadrunners as they head to Little Rock to take on the No. 12 team in the country.
