On Oct. 30, the Student Resource Center hosted Scary Rec Day. This chilling event consisted of the following: Trader Joe’s Trick or Treat Group Ride (12:30pm – 2pm), Costume Dodgeball (4pm – 6pm), Glow Dance Cardio/Glow in the Dark Pumpkin Painting (6:30pm – 7:30pm), Zombie Climb (7pm – 11pm), and Scary Fest (7pm – 11pm). Although I was unable to attend Trader Joe’s Trick or Treat Group Ride and Glow Dance Cardio/Glow in the Dark Pumpkin Painting, the other events seemed certainly spooky and mysterious. So, I had to investigate myself and see what paranormal activities were happening inside the SRC.
Costume Dodgeball was an amazing experience. I witnessed a taco, colored crayons and Hero from Dragon Quest go up against Garfield, a Bunny Officer and two Cal State Bakersfield Track & Field members. I also played some dodgeball matches and I was able to dodge and get a couple of costumes out. However, while wearing a Gengar Costume, I was sweating so much to the point where I had to exit the game early. After Costume Dodgeball, we all took a group photo of our costumes, then went our separate ways as we patiently waited for Scary Rec Night.
Once I came back to the Scary Fest, the Zombie Climb had started, and I noticed a zombie giving instructions to Spiderman as he prepared himself to do rock climbing. Furthermore, Scary Fest consisted of interactive booths (Rodeo club, pro-life club, face painting etc.) Laser Tag, Dance floor (hosted by a DJ), photo/food booth, and casino tables.
Everyone seemed to have a great time but especially the casino tables section. Watching Hero from Dragon Quest win big at Blackjack, only to lose it all in the end was both devastating and entertaining. At the roulette table, the stakes were high as a few players bet big on specific colors and numbers, with some winning and others losing.
As the clock struck 11 PM, the dealers closed the casino tables, and other areas began to disappear. The eerie atmosphere of Scary Rec Night faded, and the Student Resource Center returned to its familiar state, concluding a night filled with spine-chilling thrills and unforgettable moments.
