The beginning of the school can be a hard start but, thanks to Cal State University of Bakersfield the students felt welcome.
CSUB hosted welcome week through Aug. 26 to Aug. 30 which included different events to welcome the students and staff back to school. They had events such as a Welcome Back Pep Rally and a Black Student Welcome in order to welcome everybody to all the different areas of campus.
“These events are to show students where their village is and that we are here to support them.” said Karla Young, Public Affairs Communication Specialist for the College of Business and Public Administration
These events all had lots of fun and food including pizza, cookies and more. Multiple people at these events had a fun time and were feeling very welcomed.
Shaylyn Marks Assistant Professor and President Faculty Associate for Diversity Initiative said that “The Black Student welcome Event was to welcome students and create a community and connect them with resources and create a space for us to connect together.”
Natasha Harris Director of Special Programs and Student Retention Initiatives for the Division of Student Affairs said that “CSUB holds these events so that students that walk on to this campus feel supported and loved and know that we are here to support and cherish them and help them through this journey.”
Cal State University of Bakersfield had a lot of welcome events to help students get more acclimated to the campus and make it feel like home.
