After a nearly two-year process, three engineering programs received accreditation at CSU Bakersfield.

Computer engineering, electrical engineering and engineering sciences have all been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, according to a press release.

“ABET accreditation is a game-changer for CSUB and employers of engineers as we rise to meet the workforce demands in Kern County,” said CSUB President Lynnette Zelezny in the press release. “This prestigious accreditation will drive progress on our planned Energy and Engineering Innovation Center, which is another important step in meeting our region’s critical needs for a STEM-educated workforce.”

According to the press release, receiving accreditation from ABET means the programs meet standards which can produce students who are ready to enter the fields of innovation and technology and can satisfy the demands of those trades.

“An endorsement by ABET speaks to the strength of our programs, the excellence of our faculty and the premium we place on our students,” said Dean of the School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Engineering Kathleen Madden in the press release.

According to its website, ABET is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization recognized by the Council for Higher Learning. It currently accredits 3,850 programs at over 775 colleges and universities in 31 different countries.
