A man arrested on campus last week was not a student and has no affiliation with the university, according to a press release issued by the university police department.

According to the press release, at approximately 9:50 a.m. on Thursday, April 12, “campus police received a report of a suspicious male subject seen circulating the campus on the east side of Science 3. The man appeared to be carrying bolt cutters in a duffle bag.”

Officers made contact with the man, identified as 39 year-old Walid Jaroudi. According to the press release, Jaroudi was arrested for possession of burglary tools, possession of unlawful paraphernalia, possession of narcotic controlled substance, and possession of a fictitious check. Chief Williamson explained that Jaroudi was found with multiple stolen credit cards.

Jaroudi was transported to Kern County Receiving Facility and booked. His bail amount is set at $25 thousand. At this time Jaroudi is being charged with one felony of making or passing a fictitious check, and two misdemeanors, one for possession of narcotic controlled substance, and one for receiving known stolen property.

Jaroudi’s criminal record includes having plead no contest to charges of petty theft, grand theft, and possession of controlled substance in cases dating back to 2015. Public records indicate that Jaroudi was on probation at the time of the arrest, and was also charged with a crime in Arizona last year.
