The Big West conference announced the sponsorship with men’s and women’s swimming and diving will discontinue on July 1, 2026.
“Our priority is ensuring that student-athletes and programs have clear, stable pathways to meaningful competitive opportunities. Acting now allows institutions to transition to leagues where they can maintain NCAA Championship automatic qualification access and continue to thrive,” said Big West commissioner Dan Butterly.
The conference is giving member schools the chance to automatically qualify for the NCAA Championship. Currently swimmers can qualify if they hit under the automatic qualification mark at the conference championship meet.
Due to the sudden change, the Big West has tried to help the schools impacted by trying to find them new homes.
In the press release the conference states they have coordinated with “partner leagues such as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and the Pac-12 Conference.”
“CSUB Athletics was preemptively alerted of the Big West’s decision and has been proactively working to secure affiliate membership in another conference for the Roadrunner swimming and diving teams. We hope to be able to announce that plan in the near future, once all details and agreements are finalized,” said CSUB Athletics Sports Information Director Isaac Comelli.
