The Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners won the baseball game 7-6 against Westcliff University Warriors on March 10 at Hardt Field, winning extra innings following a late comeback that pushed the game within extra innings.
Westcliff University scored its first initial run as Ryan Duron hit an RBI single to center field bringing Landon Raski home. This gave Westcliff University a 1-0 lead. The Roadrunners quickly tied the game 1-1 after a throwing error by the catcher.
CSUB took the lead in the third inning when Garrett Teunissen reached on a fielder’s choice, scoring a run. This put the Roadrunners ahead 2-1. Both teams stayed focused on pitching and defense in the next couple innings.
Westcliff University gained momentum late in the game, with Duron delivering a two-RBI single in the eighth inning to put the Warriors up 3-2. They extended their lead in the ninth inning as Raski drove in two runs with a single to right field, followed by Haiden Letzi RBI bunt single to make it 6-2.
However, the Roadrunners mounted a rally in the bottom of the ninth. Kanoa Morisaki doubled to right field and brought in a run, and Jacob May three-run home run to right center tied the game at 6-6, forcing extra innings.
In the 10th inning, Bakersfield took advantage of a defensive error. Dusty Vela crossed the plate due to an errant throw while trying to pick him off, securing a 7-6 victory for the Roadrunners in front of their fans.
