The Cal State Bakersfield Baseball program began their 2026 season with a home opener
on Feb. 13 versus the University of Southern Indiana following an additional three
games (versus USI) on the four-day weekend.
The Roadrunners’ opening game on Friday lasted roughly four hours. Ultimately,
CSUB took an 8-7 victory over the Screaming Eagles on Opening Night. The following day on
Valentine’s Day, CSUB unfortunately lost with a score of 6-7 to tie the series.
Due to weather concerns, both programs agreed to end their four-day series with a
doubleheader on Sunday. Game one of the doubleheader started at 1:00 p.m. and game
two began roughly at 5:00 p.m. The Runners lost the first game of the day with a score of
14-8.
To close the long weekend, Bakersfield made an incredible comeback to end the season
opener series with a 2-2 record. CSUB closed off the night with an 11-10 victory. They
achieved eight runs per game and stole a total of 12 bases throughout the weekend.
On Friday, Feb. 13, the Runners had a lead of 7-2 while USI scored five runs in the final two
innings, giving Bakersfield their 8-7 win. On Saturday, Feb. 14, USI was up 5-0, giving them
their victory of 7-6. On Sunday, Feb. 15, USI was taking over with a 14-8 win, but the Runners
managed to clap back by a 5-run first inning, giving them their 11-10 victory.
