CSU Bakersfield’s volleyball team is ready to rise to new heights. With captains, Simia Bhakta and Ella Erteltova leading the charge, as they prepare for the challenges ahead. The captains are determined to inspire their teammates, stay motivated, and achieve the ambitious goals they have set for the 2024 season. 

Being a captain is not only about holding a title — it’s about leading by example and that’s just what Erteltova plans to do.  “It is important for me to have a commitment and accept my role first and then want it from other people,” said Erteltova. Both captains emphasized the importance of keeping a positive mindset and creating an environment where everyone feels supported.  

 This volleyball team is no stranger to adversity. Injuries, tough openers, and the pressure to perform have tested the team, but the captains are still focused on overcoming every challenge and opened up about the challenges they have faced. “My biggest challenge is just stepping into the role as a leader going into my senior year,” Bhakta said, “hoping I can do it well!”  Erteltova mentions, “The biggest challenge as a team captain is when things are not going well. I am one of the people responsible for taking action and holding each player accountable.” 

 One thing is certain about this team: they won’t back down from any challenge that comes their way. Bhakta shares that she, “hopes to bring us to the big west tournament for the first time (as this will be the second big west tournament ever hosted) and I want to be remembered as a positive energetic player that truly cared about her team like they were her family — which they are!”  

 “I want to be remembered as a selfless experienced captain that people have trust in what I hope to achieve as a captain is to have great season as a team. I can help mention on and off the court, but it is about all of us and team success will be the dream ending season,” said Erteltova

With these goals in mind this team will be ready to face this season head-on. As for their goals, with leadership at the helm, and the team’s goals in focus, CSUB volleyball is poised for a remarkable season. The captain’s dedication to their teammates and their unshakeable determination to overcome challenges will be key in pushing the team to reach new heights.
