The California State University, Bakersfield volleyball team defended their home court once again during the WAC Tournament and proved that the third time is a charm as they finally defeated the New Mexico State Aggies 3-1 on Friday in the Icardo Center. Coming into the match, CSUB lost their previous three matches against the Aggies, which includes last season’s WAC Tournament final.
The ‘Runners were led by senior middle blocker Molly O’Hagan, who recorded 20 kills, and senior outside hitter Danika Youngblood who had 14 kills.
CSUB started out slow, dropping the first set 25-21, despite rallying from seven points down to bring it to within two, until the Aggies closed out the set. The ‘Runners then started rolling, winning sets two and three by an immediate tiebreaker 26-24. CSUB then finally broke free from New Mexico State and clinched the win, and another trip to the WAC finals, by the score of 25-20.
The ‘Runners will play either #1 UMKC or #5 Seattle for the WAC crown on Saturday at 5pm in the Icardo Center.
