All aboard the SS Fandom!
Hello CSUB Fandom friends, it’s your host, Idallas.
What makes a fandom?
Anybody makes a fandom, or at least in my own opinion, I say so.
Like I said before, I’m your host Idallas, and to break down what is a fandom and what I’m gonna be doing here, let’s give you some qualifications for this fangirl.
I’ve been a fangirl for about, let’s say, give or take, since I was 10.
I’m 24 for reference now, so you can do the math.
Now, a fandom is more than just one person.
A fandom is cultivated by love, passion, and anything you can get excited for, or even hatred.
Hatred is a very common thing in fandom, especially when it comes from work that is not your own.
Let’s take this back.
When I was about 10 years old, I was introduced to a very wonderful fandom, otherwise known as the Harry Potter fandom.
Now, nowadays, the Harry Potter fandom can be decisive, to say the least.
There’s lots of things that are always playing into it, lots of fandom wars and everything in between, but at the end of the day, I’m still a part of that fandom because I share a love for it.
And as someone who can say and is a proud fangirl, fandom community brings me joy.
You see, community can be fostered between two people.
It doesn’t have to be a big fandom.
If you find that you like a specific artist, that’s a fandom.
You find what you love, and that’s what the show is gonna be all about.
What do you love and how do you express that love?
Like I said before, this isn’t always going to be about the highs, the amazing joys of everything, because fandom comes with sadness, fandom comes with hatred, fandom comes with negative emotions as well.
You’ll see different perspectives from each person, but as I bring on a guest, they’re gonna explain their fandom, how long they’ve been into it, and everything that they love and or hate about their fandom.
Now, fandoms are not a new thing.
You have very, very old fandoms like Star Wars and Star Trek.
These were before my time, at least, and are still very prevalent today.
You have giant fandoms and you have small fandoms.
Any fandom is welcome here.
Fandom creates a lot of things, a lot of beautiful things, a lot of very ugly things, but one of my favorites and a very big one for a lot of people is fanfiction.
Made by fans for fans.
Fandom creates beautiful new things based off of their original work.
You can go anywhere.
You can create music that was inspired by the work.
You can create art that was inspired by the work.
You can create, again, fanfiction that was inspired by the work.
But at the end of the day, all things round back out to the fandom you are a part of.
That community that you love and that brings you that intense feeling, whether it be good or bad.
Now, I’m opening this up to everyone and anyone out there listening.
That’s a college student, of course, hence why I’m here.
I’m a college student and to bring it back, why I think this is important, why I think talking about and expressing your love and or hatred for fandoms is important, especially in this day and age as a college student, as someone who is actively grinding out projects, assignments, anything in between.
It is important simply because it gives you something else to focus on.
Your life shouldn’t revolve around just grinding out that homework assignment, hitting the books, going to work.
You should have something to enjoy, something that you are proud to say that I’m a part of this.
You should be able to make friends over a certain love of something, whether that be little or small, little or big, like I said before.
Fandom brings me joy and I hope it’ll bring you joy, too.
So, with that being said, I’m opening this up to CSUB students all across campus, whether that be big clubs surrounded by specific fandoms or individuals.
As you’ll see in different segments, I’ll have smaller guests or I’ll have bigger guests depending on what they do and how they like and how what they love and we’ll have a discussion because that’s what this is, a discussion.
It’s fun to talk about fandoms and I hope, if anything, that if you like a certain fandom or if you like what you’re hearing, that you go out there and that you find that media and who knows, maybe you can be on the show, too.
Now, to bring that back, if you want to be on this show, again I’m opening it up to you, you can contact me by emailing Igomez, g-o-m-e-z, 19, at csub.edu or by social media via my DMs, obviously.
My Insta is Idallas, i-d-a-l-l-a-s-x, soul, s-o-u-l, underscore.
Reach out to me.
Let me know what fandom you’re willing to talk about.
We’ll set up a time and we’ll talk.
