Roadrunners lose to Santa Clara

Santa Clara, Ca- The CSU Bakersfield women’s basketball team were in action Saturday afternoon against Santa Clara. After leading the first half, the Roadrunner’s were not able to hold onto their lead, eventually falling short 53-67.  

The Roadrunners took an 8-5 lead making the first quarter the lowest scoring period of the contest. The second quarter saw both teams heat up as they evenly scored 21 apiece, and the Roadrunners had a narrow lead at half 29-26. 

 A second half surge by the Broncos helped them pull away as they outscored the Roadrunners 41-24 in the third and fourth quarter combined. The Broncos were able to capitalize off Roadrunner mistakes scoring 23 points off of turnovers.   

Jayden Eggleston was the leading scorer for the Roadrunners on Saturday, racking up 17 points including going 9-9 from the free throw line.  Hennie Van Schaik and Lexus Green each chipped in with nine points, but it was enough for the Bronco second half onslaught.   

Lindsey VanAllen led the Broncos and all scorers with 26 points, as well as, shooting 60 percent from the field.  

 The Roadrunners (1-3) will begin a four-game home stand starting with Pepperdine on Tuesday Nov. 30 at the Icardo center with a tipoff time set for 7 p.m.
