If you have missed the excitement of live theatre, CSU Bakersfield’s spring production might be just what you need. Opening Mar. 18, She Kills Monsters: Virtual Realms, aims to take the audience on a heartwarming journey to acceptance through the lens of virtual Dungeons and Dragons gameplay.

According to Director Mandy Rees, she found the play captivating at first read. When she realized that playwright Qui Nguyen had adapted the script specifically for Zoom, it seemed like a perfect match

“This show is great because it says ‘you can be who you are and have superpowers in your own life’,” said Rees.

For Timothy Zuniga, who portrays Miles in the play, this project has challenged him and his fellow castmates while giving them valuable experience to hone their craft.

“In this play, I’m learning to really capture facial expressions. We’re also figuring out how to play with the boxes, and I think it’s going to shine how we’ve used the space we’re given,” said Zuniga.

The show opens Mar. 18 and will run through Mar. 21; Thursday, Friday, and Saturday will have evening shows at 7:30 p.m. and matinees will run on Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. While the show is free to view, the Theatre Department is welcoming donations at this time.
