Rock the vote: There’s still time

Update: Aaron Aragon, Associated Students Inc. Director of Legislative Affairs addressed the email saying, “We at ASI apologize for the misleading information. We just want to promote the last day to register to vote which is today, the Feb. 18.”

An email containing misleading information about the 2020 primary election was sent out by an Associated Students Inc. representative to the CSU Bakersfield student body on Feb. 18.

The email falsely asserted that Feb. 18 was the last day to vote in the primary election, when in fact the last day to vote in the primaries is March 3, according to Jackie St. George, Assistant Registrar of Voters at the Kern County Elections Office.

The last day to register to vote is Feb. 18, though California allows same-day registration, known as Conditional Voter Registration, through local election offices.

The last day to request a vote-by-mail ballot is Feb. 25.

Following the signing of SB207 by Governor Gavin Newsom, voters may also change their party registration in the last two weeks leading up to the election, according to reporting from the San Fransisco Chronicle.Â
