Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is sending his campaign team to CSU Bakersfield for an election rally on Wednesday, Feb. 12.

Phillip Agnew and Xiuhtezcatl Martinez are national surrogates for Sanders’ 2020 campaign, and will both attend and speak at the rally.

Agnew is the co-founder of Dream Defenders, an organization founded in 2012 following the murder of Trayvon Martin. Agnew is also the co-founder of an artistic space called Smoke Signals in Miami, FL, and is a board member for Planned Parenthood Action Fund.

Martinez is a 19-year-old hip hop artist and environmental activist. Martinez is currently the Youth director for a conservation organization called Earth Guardians. He started speaking publicly on environmental concerns at the young age of 6-years-old.

Agnew most recently spoke for the Sanders campaign in Iowa City, IA while Sanders himself could not attend, where he said as the audience joined hands, “With these hands, we will fight for a nation that makes our grandparents and our grandchildren proud. With these hands, we will build power and transformation. With these hands, we will do miracles.”

The event will be free for all and first come, first served at CSUB’s Alumni Plaza at 3 p.m.
