On Sept. 19, 2019, at 5:59 p.m., an incident occurred on Stockdale Hwy across from CSU Bakersfield. The Bakersfield Police Department and University Police responded to the scene and determined that students were not in danger.

Initial reports indicated that a vehicle collision had occurred, and multiple gunshots were fired. Investigators determined that the collision and shooting began as a domestic incident at another location. BPD confirmed at least three people are involved in the incident, two traveling in one vehicle who remained on the scene during the initial press release, and a third who was taken to a local hospital with what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Westbound traffic was affected on Stockdale Hwy from Gosford Rd to E. Don Hart Dr while the investigation was ongoing.
