CSU Bakersfield baseball assistant coach, Steve Farrington, was involved in car crash on May 6 in Las Vegas.

CSUB Director of Athletics, Ziggy Siegfried made a statement about the coach’s accident.

Siegfried said that the baseball game that was scheduled on May 7 against Fresno State was going to be canceled. He mentioned how important Coach Farrington is to the team and how special he is.

According to The Bakersfield Californian, Farrington was given CPR on scene and then transported to UMC Trauma Center in Las Vegas. He remains unconscious and is being treated for brain injury. The brain injury he was diagnosed with is known as diffuse axonal injury. This type of brain injury disrupts the nerve cells from sending messages and causes brain cells to die. This causes the brain to swell and decreases blood flow to the brain.
