Cal State Bakersfield Mens’s soccer team faced off against UC Davis in a thriller matchup on Oct. 15th. From corner to penalty goals, this game was “muy calante”as CSUB were able to receive three crucial points for the Big West Standings. By a score of 3-2, the Roadrunners were able to pull off the win and become first in the BW standings.
In the first half, CSUB defender, Josh Farell took the 1-0 lead in the 18th minute thanks to corner kick assisted by CSUB set piece specialist, Filip Arras. During the halftime break, CSUB’ Dance Club and Cheer Squad performed in front of the `Runner fans. Afterwards, a mariachi band took over the scene with their outstanding performances, making the crowd excited and ready for the 2nd half of the ball game.
Once the second half commenced, everything went off the table as it became an offensive battle. n the 62nd minute, UCD scored off a penalty to tie the game 1-1. Then a few minutes later, Farell scored again with the same Arras corner kick connection. Although CSUB was in the lead, 2-1,The Gunrocks struck again with a penalty goal in the 78th minute. The tied score built pressure as this was anybody’s game. Once CSUB were dialed in, they were able to continue attacking UC Davis and earned a penalty kick call in the 80th minute. Rashaad Ogun, the CSUB forward striker, stepped up to the box and scored the winning goal, ending the game with a 3-2 victory.
This was a critical game for the Roadrunners as they only have 5 matches left until the BW tournament begins on Nov. 5th. Lethal corner kick goals, crucial saves by Goalkeeper Zenden Hart, and Ogun’s decisive penalty goal influenced CSUB’s victory and moved up to the top in BW standings.
