Cal State Bakersfield’s women’s soccer team has seen a few changes since the start of the fall 2024 semester. Notably the addition of Whitney Pitalo who became the new women’s head soccer coach during February of 2025. With the addition of five first year players coming out of high school and nine transfer students the team has changed plenty.
The women’s soccer team in the previous 2024 season posted an 8-10-5 record. However, in their interleague play within their own division they had a 4-3-3 record which put them above breaking even. They then made it to the Big West championship in which they narrowly lost to UC Santa Barbera eight to seven in a shootout. In this new season they will look to improve upon an already successful previous season.
In one of their first few matches they played Boise State who were the Mountain West season champions in 2024. This game ended in CSUB winning 3-1 against a very competitive team. As the team starts to get into their games against Big West rivals, they will need to stay competitive to be able to improve upon last year.
The team then played Fresno State at home and won in a big 4-1 victory. The “Rally for the Valley” game started as a close game in the first half, then turned into a lopsided offensive explosion for the roadrunners as they continued to score, securing their win in the valley rivalry between Bakersfield and Fresno.
The team’s Kamy Anaya was voted the Big West’s top goalkeeper entering the 2025 season. The senior will play a crucial role in shaping her team’s season from being the veteran of the team as well as the goalkeeper. With an average save percentage around .760 she solidifies herself as a solid and reliable goalie.
Kamy isn’t the only senior who will be key for this Runner’s team. Catalina Roggerone who is a midfielder just helped Argentina’s national team place third in the Copa America Femenina. Catalina is a very talented player who can make a difference for this team.
Keep an eye out on this team moving forward. Even though last year they made it to the Big West Championship they look to improve and continue to be a competitive force and with a win against Boise State and Fresno State they put themselves on the right track.
