Hello everyone, welcome to this new episode of The Rundown by The Runner on Air. I am your host Melisa Magaña, and I’m excited and ready to share this week’s events that you might be interested in. I hope you guys enjoy this episode. Without furthermore let’s begin with this week’s rundown.

It’s Asian American and Pacific Islanders Heritage Month, usually, it’s celebrated in May, but at CSUB we are celebrating it in April to avoid any conflicts with finals and any other end-of-the-year activities. Many events will take place to honor, recognize, and raise awareness on our campus community about Asian Americans and Pacific Islander culture, history, and achievements. This week one of the many events will take place. On Tuesday, April 5 at 12 p.m. the Asian Faculty Staff Network will begin the celebration with a kick-off with open speakers and Hawaiian dancing groups. Pre-packaged snacks will be provided. This event will take place at the Student Union Runner Park.

Purchasing new books tends to be a little expensive, they give us great knowledge but once we are done with our research they tend to be abandoned and never used again. So why purchase a new book when you can buy a used one for a better price? The history book club has awesome deals, they will be selling used books in great condition. Come and support them at the Dorothy Donahoe Hall on Tuesday, April 5 from 10 a.m. through 1 p.m. For more information, you can contact [email protected]

Marle Porter produced and distributed millions of cards over 50-years of his career as a one-man postcard production company. His career ended back in 1988 after he passed away. Most of his cards were ordinary landscapes, such as highways and small towns, especially in California. On the back of each card, he would write a short historical description. In recent years pictures have been taken in the same locations that Marle Porter did, and you can see how drastic the changes have been. If you would like to view and compare the new versus old postcards, and view Merle Porter’s California postcards come and join the event “Time Stamps” organized by the art department. This event will take place from Monday through Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. If you would like to attend this event you can contact Jesse Sugarman at [email protected] more information.

Do you like picnics? Because I do, it’s an awesome way to enjoy your meal and appreciate our amazing nature. This Tuesday, April 5 the Associated Students Inc. will be hosting the “Spring Fling Picnic” in front of the Student Union between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Tables in the grass area will be provided, as well as craft supplies, disinfecting wipes, hand sanitizer, and Panera lunch boxes. Students are asked to bring their own picnic blanket if they would like to sit on the grass. This is a great way to relax and forget about your problems while you enjoy your meal with amazing company.

Music can be great therapy for most of us, especially when finals are around the corner. If you enjoy classical music don’t miss this event that will be going on this Thursday, April 7 between 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. The classical guitarist Aaron Larget-Caplan will be visiting CSU Bakersfield for an awesome night full of new and old guitar music. Seats are limited to 50 people. For more information feel free to contact Jim Scully at [email protected] or by calling (661) 654-251. The event will take place in the Music Building, room 127. General admission will be $15, Seniors $10, and students $5.

Don’t forget that CSUB is still offering free rapid Covid-19 testing, for students, staff, and faculty. The results will take approximately 15 minutes to be available to you. Appointments are not required, but you are more than welcome to do so. If you would like to make an appointment, feel free to visit: Weekly testing is highly recommended for everyone. You can stop by the Stockdale room on Monday, April 5, between 8:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. to get your free Covid-19 test.

CSUB encourages students to always have fun while thinking about their safety all the time, that’s why they constantly host several events to keep students encouraged. ASI will be hosting “The Runner Hour” this Wednesday, April 6 from 11:30 a.m. to .1 pm. This event will take place at the Student Union Runner Park. Students will be able to have a good time with games, music, and resources. So come to the Student Union Runner Park to have a good and safe time having fun.
