Vice President of Finance: Emma Kiaie
Q: What made you take an interest in student government? Do you have any previous experience in student government? What concerns you about the CSUB student government?
A: Hi! My name is Emma Kiaie, and it is my second year here at CSUB. I am a double major in computer science and religious studies. I am a part of the sorority Phi Sigma Sigma where I hold multiple leadership positions, and I hold a position within Greek Council. I am also a TA and tutor for the computer science department.
Q: What are your plans for CSUB if you are elected? What changes would you like to make? How would you work to leave it better than you found it? Where do you see CSUB headed for the next year in terms of student life?
A: One of the main things I want to do is to open up a fund for students who can’t afford to go home over breaks and be able to pay for a ticket for them. I would also like to advertise the fund we have for students on campus with food insecurities. I myself have organized drives within the Greek community where we donated over 900 dollars towards this fund. I really would love for students that are in need to know it is there. I would love to make it, so this position offers something for every student and not just those who are a part of clubs. I believe that if we all pay tuition that goes towards funding ASI, then everyone should be able to receive the benefits of it. CSUB is an amazing school when it comes to student life, and I believe that it is only going to improve as the years move forward. This year in particular, I see students fighting for each other to have an amazing experience while on this campus
Q: What made you take an interest in student government? Do you have any previous experience in student government? What concerns you about the CSUB student government?
A: As stated above, I have held multiple positions of leadership throughout all my organizations. As I held these, I enjoyed adding to the position and leaving it better off than when I started, and as I started to notice this trend, I realized I wanted to do that for the whole school. While I have no experience in student government, I have been working with Precious for weeks now to learn more about the position and how to run it if elected. While I believe our current ASI has done an amazing job in improving student life on campus, I do wish that more students knew more about where exactly their funds go, how they are used, and how important it is to be involved in the process whether you hold a position or not and that ASI should start promoting that more.
Q: Why are you the best candidate for the job?
A: I feel that I am the best candidate for VP of Finance due to my various experiences in finance and carrying out duties that involve budgeting and handling important transactions. I was treasurer for my sorority, Phi Sigma Sigma, and I am currently the fundraising chair, where in both cases I am in charge of where hundreds to thousands of dollars go throughout the organization. I have and continue to work with the present VP of Finance, Precious, to make sure I’m completely prepared if I were to be elected.
Q: Do you have any talents or interesting hobbies you engage in outside of school?
A: I am highly involved with working with special needs children and tutoring them for free. I like to show them that, no matter if you have a physical, mental or no disability at all, you can accomplish anything.
Q: Anything else you would like to add about yourself?
A: I graduated high school at sixteen, two years before my peers. I did that all while recovering after a being in a major vehicle accident, which caused my paralysis.
