Super Bowl Commercials

The Super Bowl is one of the biggest games of the year, whether it’s watching the actual game, eating food, or viewing the unusual and expensive commercials. This year marked the 50th Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos playing against the Carolina Panthers at the new Levi’s stadium in Santa Clara, California. This year’s Super Bowl commercials contained many different themes from diversity, patriotism, movie trailers, and weird and quirky types of food, insurance, and car commercials.
Each year people tune into the Super Bowl for various reasons, according to usatoday.com the “telecast reliably reaches more than 100 million sets of U.S. eyeballs every year, and advertisers can’t pass up the chance to influence that many people.”
According to usatoday.com “The top 5 commercials of Super Bowl 50” are:
- Hyundai’s First Date
- Heinz’s Wiener Stampede
- Doritos “Ultrasound”
- Doritos “Doritos Dogs”
- Hyundai’s “Ryanville”
Etonline.com differed in their choice of the top 5, by choosing the top 23. Here is their top 5:
- “The Bud Light party,” starring Amy Schumer and Seth Rogen
- Pantene’s “Dad-Do”
- Hyundai’s “Ryanville,” starring Ryan Reynolds
- The NFL’s “Super Bowl Babies Choir” featuring Seal
- Budweiser’s #GiveAD***,” starring Helen Mirren
Some of the commercials this year were disturbing, such as the Heinz’s wiener stampede where dogs were dressed as hot dog buns running toward people that were dressed as condiments of ketchup and mustard. The other disturbing and quite provocative commercial was the “Super Bowl Babies Choir” where the announcer says to the audience that their “parents done it that day”. Lastly, “the Bud Light party” commercial starring Amy Schumer and Seth Rogen has some unnecessary word pun mentioning a “caucus” and its size, which according to etonline.com was turned “into the dirtiest innuendo of the night.” It was quite unclear from the innuendo, exactly what Schumer and Rogen were intending to say since the commercial was campaigning for American beer.
