With Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner, employers are looking to fill seasonal job positions.
Mall jobs can be convenient for students who are going to school because it’s close and offers flexible hours for both high school and college students.
Throughout Valley Plaza Mall, many businesses are looking to start hiring around mid-October, while others have already started.
Several retailers located at the mall have already started accepting in-store and online applications for full-time and part-time positions.
In addition, online applications for Macy’s can be filled out on the third floor of Macy’s on their computers. For Hollister, after filling out an application online, it will automatically give a date for group interviews either on a Thursday or Friday. If a date does not appear, the applicant can call the manager to receive the date.
Adding a resume is a great advantage for applicants, even if one has no work experience adding a resume of extra-curricular activities will separate applicants from other applicants without a resume.
Engineering science major Omar Samara, 19, said being flexible can help students get the job.
“Be flexible in your hours, let them know you will go out of your way to do anything they need,” said Samara.
On the contrary, business major Valerie Macias, 17, explains that even if a student is working they need to continue to work hard in school.
“Put school first,” said Macias “a job is not the main priority.”
If a person finds working at the mall to be too far or too much with school on their plate, there are also on-campus jobs.
Double major in bio-chemistry and philosophy Alfeah Muharram, 22, thinks students should consider college campus jobs.
“There is a career website that can help you find a job,” said Muharram.
Seasonal jobs at the Mall can benefit a student by giving them work experience in retail and some extra cash for spending.
