CSU Bakersfield’s Associated Students Incorporated convened during the first week of school on Sept. 18 to discuss what is in store for the new school year, and representatives from groups involved on campus made a showing of support to begin the new quarter in ITV Studio C in the Walter Stern Library.
This meeting saw resolutions of old business, as well as new opportunities for ASI to connect to clubs at CSUB. ASI President Mike Kwon verbally expressed his happiness at the turn out for the meeting. It also showed ASI’s willingness to observe campus issues.
The primary focus for the meeting seemed to be an agenda of introduction of people and their plans for the quarter. Liaisons from departments on campus—Student Recreation Center, Campus Programming, Student Athletic Committee, Greek Life and Student Union—made their calendar of events known to the board.
The board also recognized some of the growing pains students are experiencing returning to school. Vice President of External Affairs representative, Danielle Kinsey, took note of a recent social media post where students complained of overcrowded classrooms and directed the issues toward the University Affairs Committee.
Kwon introduced those in attendance to the Student Leadership Council, and the goals and expectations of the council.
The overall mission is to connect ASI and clubs on campus. Two members of each club can attend the council, which plans to build stronger connections between clubs and student government. The first meeting of the Council is scheduled for Sept. 25 in Business Development Center 401D, and continued meetings will take place twice a quarter.
The board also confirmed a permanent meeting area in the Walter Stern Library. All students are welcome to attend the meetings to keep better informed about the campus. The board meets every Friday in ITV Studio C- located to the bottom right of the library from 3:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
