To investigate the prevalence of homelessness and food insecurity among California State University students, the CSU system has commissioned a study centering on those two issues.
CSU Long Beach social work professor Rashida Crutchfield is leading the study. Crutchfield was appointed to lead by the CSU Chancellor’s Office.
The report is expected to summarize the services across the CSU system given to homeless and food-insecure students.
The CSU system thinks this study will be crucial in improving student success among college students.
“Students should be focused on their education – but this focus is hard to maintain for those who do not know where they will sleep or when they will eat their next meal,” said CSU Chancellor Timothy P. White in a statement. “The work of Professor Crutchfield’s team is essential to empower many of our students to reach their full potential.”
It is unknown how many students are affected by homelessness or food insecurity.
