While many students were getting back into the groove of school after spring break, members of the business and community organization, Enactus, were celebrating their win at the regional competition in Orange County.

Like any focused competitor, the team got together and had a night of preparation to iron out the wrinkles in their 17 minute presentation. The presentation was broken up into five concepts of Business:  Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing, and Corporate Social Responsibility.

When the time came to present senior business management major, Jenna DeMarco, described it as “flawless.”

“When our team was presenting we were really passionate and assertive with what we were saying that’s why I believe we won, because we were able to captivate the judges,” DeMarco said.

Junior business administration major and CSUB chapter President of Enactus, Ricky Esparza, explained what the Enactus team does.

“We help our community by using business concepts and business skills we’ve learned in college, and that’s what I like because I can gain leadership skills while at the same time giving back to my community,” Esparza said. 

The organization takes on community and local business projects. For example, the team went to CSUB 101 classes to talk to incoming freshmen about finances and debt management. The team also assisted a local DJ with rebranding and creating a logo for his business.

Their hours of community service and hard work paid off when their name was called first in the list of teams who had won at the regional competition.

“Our whole team was jumping out of their seats. We were so excited. I was kind of in shock just seeing the schools we were up against; I was amazed that we came first,” DeMarco recalled.

The team, along with the winners of the other nine regional competitions will be competing at the National Exposition in Kansas City, Mo. May 21-23.
