Associated Students Inc. canceled its meeting on April 10, due to four of the six executive officers were going to miss it because they were at conferences.
According to Mike Kwon, ASI executive vice president, those four executive officers were at the California State Student Association conference in San Francisco, and they need a majority of the officer in attendance to conduct the meeting.
“For a board meeting to be held or any action to be decided upon, there has to be quorum of basically a majority of the board members,” Kwon said. “[Additionally], last Friday because of situations and circumstances, there were some people that had to leave because of family emergencies and it’s kind of funny, but there were some people miss out because there was a concert and they didn’t want to miss it. It was just an odd week last week.”
Kwon said that ASI is scheduled to have a meeting this Friday at the Business Development Center in room 155B. The meeting starts at 3:15 p.m.
Kwon added that one of the things that ASI has in the works for this quarter is helping to bring in a university garden.
“Our president [Derek Stotler] with our vice president of university affairs [Jennifer Sanchez] they are in talks with Evelyn Young, which is the executive assistant to [President Horace] Mitchell and they are communicating with outside community partners to bring in a university garden,” he said. “They are trying to bring it on our campus, so we’re trying figure out what kind of materials we’ll need, who will be staffing it, how we can maybe involve students with it so that we can get students working on our campus…so we’re trying to tackle that huge project and bring that onto our campus.”
He said that the university garden will help with bringing more community engagement.
“It’s just an opportunity for growth and development for both [students and the community].”
