Chad Alame, a CSU Bakersfield student who is mastering in business and administration, founded the Film Club on campus approximately a year ago.
“The primary reason why I created the club was to give CSUB students, including myself, an opportunity to become exposed to filmmaking. It all started out as a discussion with a couple of my peers, and eventually saw that many students would be interested in this type of club,” said Alame.
Alame is currently the president of the Film Club, also manages to work as the General Manager of the Panda Express in the Valley Plaza mall.
Alame began acting back in high school but was forced to take a break from it to focus on school and work. However, he became interested in directing and producing films two years ago. One year later, the Film Club was started when Alame found out that many other students shared the same interest.
Since the club’s beginnings, the club has grown in numbers. There are far more active members and they’ve been able to put on two on-campus screenings, which has enhanced their filmmaking skills. The members of the club hold auditions, make films, host both screenings and workshops, and give one another feedback.
The club is always welcoming new members, all interested students need to do is show up to one of their meetings; which are held every Friday in Music Building 112 at 12 p.m. If students are unable to attend these meetings, they can always follow the Film Club’s Facebook page, The Film Club at CSUB, to stay updated with club activities. From there, they can message the club to get added to their e-mailing list and become part of the club directory.
“We are excited for our club to grow and we would like new members to be apart of it,” said Alame.
