The Cielo 9 Bar on Rosedale Hwy was filled with music fans, waiting to see a free performance by new artist, Vance Joy on Wednesday night. The lounge atmosphere was a bit smoky and empty at first glance, but quickly turned into a happening scene.
Krab Radio hosted the show, and announced that it would be the first of many for their new concert series, though they didn’t elaborate on who would be next.
Vance Joy took to the stage with just his guitar. The Australian singer-songwriter had the audience captivated with his mellow songs and captivating lyrics, while the girls were swooning over his dreamy voice.
Although Joy only sang for about 25-30 minutes, he gave the audience enough of a taste for his sound. His coffeehouse style had everyone engaged, singing songs, like “From Afar” from his debut album, “Dream Your Life Away,” which was released in September 2014.
“Mess Is Mine” seemed to be a crowd favorite, and was proof that his music is ideal for the romantic souls out there.
Joy closed out the show with the song he is most-known for, “Riptide,” which had quite a few people singing along.
Though, not very chatty with the crowd, he let the music speak for itself. Channeling some of the stylings of Bob Dylan and even brought out a Ukulele for some of the upbeat songs.
After his set, fans lined up to meet Joy; taking pictures and singing his praise.
The artist is also set to open for Taylor Swift on her 1989 World Tour this summer.
