As the quarter comes to an end, California State University, Bakersfield students have started making plans for winter break.
Winter break is the time for holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. For many of us, it is a joyous time that we wait for all year.
Nothing describes winter break better than delicious foods and desserts, warm throw blankets, cozy clothes, and fuzzy shoes. But most important, it is the time to spend with loved ones and perhaps, do some traveling.
“I’m just going to head home and spend time with my family,” said senior Daniel Castregon, biology major who is from Los Angeles, “I would recommend Hart Park for those who are staying here.”
Castregon is not the only CSUB student looking forward to spending time with family.
“I may either go to Mexico or stay home,” said freshman Alicia Picos, a liberal studies major, “If I stay, my family will get together and make some typical Mexican food such as tamales.”
However, not all students have started making plans aside from working.
“I won’t be going anywhere. I’m just going to work,” said freshman Amanpreet Kaur a criminal justice major.
If you have not made plans, you still have time. I came upon a Seventeen Magazine article that had some great ideas. Some of these ideas are a ski trip, reunite with friends, theme parks, stay active, visiting museums, and explore which most can be done in Kern County!
1. Ski Trip
Hopefully, our Kern County mountains have enough snow before the end of the winter.
2. Reunite with friends
What better time than the holidays to reunite with our friends? Many of us have friends who relocated after high school or we relocated to attend college.
3. Theme parks
While Kern County does that not have any theme parks, we are only about two hours away from Six Flags and Disneyland.
4. Stay Active
If you are worried about a few extra pounds, stay active! You can go bowling or ice skating. I know I will be visiting the ice rink in Bakersfield. I’ve never ice skated, but it’s never too late to learn something new.
5. Visit Museums
How much do you know about Kern County? Whether you know a lot or nothing, you can always learn a little more.
6. Explore
For those adventurers out there, you can go explore many places in Kern County. From Downtown Bakersfield to Tehachapi, there is a place for you to explore.
As for myself, I have so many plans that I do not know where to start. From catching up on sleep to learning how to ice skate, I’m excited about winter. Happy Holidays fellow Runners! Be safe.
