While performing at the Future Music Festival, rapper Azealia Banks had an unpleasant time dealing with the rock band Stone Roses. According to Banks, the situation stems from a negative experience with her ex-tour manager Troy Carter: My ex-tour manager made a pact with the Stone Roses saying they’d sabotage my set because I fired him… They decided to check their equipment behind me during my set.”
This is the tour manager who Banks recently fired after accusing him of stealing from her. Like most of the rapper’s rants, the accusation of her managers alleged theft was posted to her twitter, “Just fired my tour manager for stealing! Hahaaaaaaaa . I hope that $1200 was worth it dummy !!!!! (sic)” Apparently this pact caused them to set up behind Bank’s during her set, and their actions were disruptive to her performance.
Though this conflict seems to be the fault of Stone Roses, the past conflicts of Azealia Banks can not be ignored; she also has had Twitter drama with rappers Nicki Minaj and Jim Jones and celebrity blogger Perez Hilton to name a few. One of the Twitter arguments that gained the most attention was actually hers with Hilton, where she posted, “lol what a messy f*aggot you are. (sic)” Her use of the slur upset many.
Banks seems to release stress by ranting on Twitter instead of working conflicts out in private. This has caused many people to learn about her not for her upbeat music or strong rap skills, but for the drama that follows her name. However, the drama could be by design. For Banks, there is no such thing as bad publicity. Because her name has been all over the music scene lately, and with her album ‘Broke with Expensive Taste’ scheduled to be released this year, media attention is exactly what she needs.
After banks incident with Stone Roses, Banks took to twitter with three post about the incident: “Wow a bunch of old white men trying to bully a young black girl…. What the fuck else is new in this world ???” “Wow! I must really fucking be a superstar … You’ve got an established band trying to sabotage my lil rap bitch shine.” And finally she posted, “Fuck these old saggy white niggas stone roses. I wish them nothing but excrement and death.”
Stone Roses have still not made a statement about the incident, but it seems the emotions, especially those of Banks are calming down. A recent post to Banks Twitter account states, “The Storm Roses apologized to me.” With the Stone Roses not speaking on the incident, and this recent post from Banks all that can be inferred is that the statements made in her latest Twitter rant were very true. And a bitter ex-manager has been trying to steal her shine.
