On March 12, 2026, Cal State Bakersfield students received an email announcing new changes regarding Zoom login. On June 1, 2026, students will no longer be able to sign through their student emails. Students will now have to use a Single Sign On (SSO) in order to access Zoom going forward.
ITS News has stated, “Currently the campus permits signing into Zoom using your CSUB email and password. As of June 1, 2026, email sign–in will no longer work. SSO sign–in will be required. After June 1, email sign in attempts will present an error asking you to try other sign in methods. SSO will be the only sign in method allowed.”
Douglas Cornell, Information Security Officer for CSUB ITS, has given more details on the situation. The transition to SSO reflects CSUBs ongoing commitment to safety for the campus community. This change should allow not just CSUB, but other CSUs the ability to strengthen security and create a more streamlined authentication system. As Cornell states, “Identity management systems like SSO enhance security and convenience by enabling access to multiple services with a single login. Each system is carefully evaluated on an individual basis, taking into account security requirements, vendor capabilities, and compatibility with campus infrastructure.”
Cornell said this change was not brought on due to any specific incidents or cyber security threats. On the contrary, it is part of CSUBs next step in completing their 2025 commitment to security. Once the commitment is achieved, all active users will be switched to SSO and Duo for account accessibility. Moving forward, Cornell promises that all new students enrolling at CSUB will have a Duo set up on day one.
