There are a few days out of the year I look forward to the most – Christmas, Thanksgiving, and March 1. No, it’s not my birthday, nor is it anyone else’s, but this date is still deliciously significant to me. The entire month of March commemorates the seasonal release of Cold Stone Creamery’s “Ice Cream at the End of the Rainbow”. There’s pure magic in every bite; this dessert is the luckiest pleasure of the burgeoning spring season.
The first time I had this ice cream was in March 2025, and I’ve been dreaming of it ever since. It’s a soft, green-colored ice cream with a sweet, milky flavor. It has Lucky Charms cereal, whipped topping, and edible glitter. As someone who loves both Lucky Charms and ice cream, the thought of this combination had me instantly hooked.
Now, it’s March 2026, and I was thrilled to see my beloved ice cream had returned! I visited Cold Stone’s Marketplace location – a short drive from the Cal State Bakersfield’s campus – looking forward to experiencing the memorable taste again. To expedite the process, I ordered online for pickup–I was planning on heading to school afterwards to study. There was no time to waste!
As I entered the store, the buzz of families filled the air. The smell of waffle cones spread far and the clanking of ice cream scrapers brings anticipation. It was nostalgic – I recall the delight I felt eating ice cream with my family, sitting in the open trunk of my mama’s car with chocolate coating my lips.
The service was swift, friendly and self-explanatory: an employee requested my name, grabbed my order from the blast freezer and bestowed upon me a gift of pure goodness. At last, I had the “Ice Cream at the End of the Rainbow” back in my hands; I could experience the magic again! Additionally because it was an unusually warm afternoon, it was imperative for me to make it to campus as fast as legally possible.
Scurrying into the Walter Stiern Library elevator, I rose to the fourth floor and rushed past the study rooms and rows of desks. I probably made commotion through the halls, but I couldn’t care less, this was urgent business! I burst open the container and scooped up my first bite.
I’m not kidding when I say this. Cold Stone’s “Ice Cream at the End of the Rainbow” is the best ice cream I’ve had! The flavor tastes exactly the same as the milk left after eating an entire bowl of cereal: it’s grainy, marshmellowy, and in complete competition with its breakfast counterpart. Additionally, with pieces of Lucky Charms swirled in, this ice cream has a nice and satisfying crunch to it.
Despite these praises, I do have two critiques about Cold Stone’s seasonal flavor. As I was halfway through my Love It (medium sized) portion of ice cream, I did start to feel stuffed. With its excessive amount of sugar, various mix-ins, and sweet taste, this dessert could fill up even the biggest, sweet tooth. However, my other critique is completely contradictory: I wish I ordered the Gotta Have It (large sized) portion. As I scooped up my last bite, I was already looking forward to the next time I would eat my favorite ice cream again.
Before March ends, I’ll definitely end up visiting Cold Stone again. If you’re a fan of Lucky Charms cereal, love ice cream just as much as I do or want a sweet treat to power through midterms, Cold Stone’s “Ice Cream at the End of the Rainbow” is there to bring you cheer!
