As the seasons change, and the air becomes crisp, students from California State University of Bakersfield are putting away their summer fashion statements and are pulling out falls newest trends. Social media, such as Instagram and Pinterest, has influenced many people’s choices of clothing to keep up with the latest styles. There are many different styles and people wear them the way they feel most comfortable.
“I work at Apricot Lane Boutique, so I’m constantly around clothes and observing trends. But I do have a Pinterest and I scour magazines purely out of interest and it helps me in my job,” said Samantha Beagley, a fourth year student at CSUB.There is something about fall that gets people in a warm and fuzzy mood. It is the season of sweaters, leggings and all things cozy.
“I get bored of summer fashion and fall is something new. I really love the layered look with big sweaters, coats, and scarves. But my absolute favorite trend right now for fall is all the different boots and booties. A great pair of shoes really completes an outfit,” Said Briana Sanchez, a 25-year-old Graduate student.
Although social media is a great way to find new styles, keeping your eyes peeled to see what the celebrities are wearing is also a great idea. Celebrities will always be testing new trends, and we will be the ones to decide if they are hot or not.
Briana Sanchez also noted, “Cameron Diaz […] doesn’t just stick to one style. She tries them all and she is successful.”
As college students, we may not always want to pay full price for a designer top or a great pair of denim jeans, but there are always inexpensive ways to keep up with what’s new. Newest editions of magazines always offer tips for bargain shoppers. Goodwill and consignment stores seem to be the hottest trend of the year. Although fashion has evolved, every few decades fashion comes full circle. We may just wear it a little differently or add some accessories to change it up.
Stereotypically some would assume that men don’t care about fashion; however, that is not always the case. Men’s clothing choices have also evolved yet there are still clothing pieces that will remain. Some looks that men are accomplishing this season are the sophisticated look, which consists of vests and bow ties; the hipster look with facial hair and flannels; or the All American boy look with jeans, tee shirts, and the classic Chuck Taylors. No matter which style a man chooses, he can also use accessories to pull his outfit together too; this year’s best accessory is facial hair.
“It’s hard to say what fall trends I notice particularly[…] but something I do notice from time to time that I don’t see enough of, and that should be a trend, is more facial hair scruff. For men at least, it kind of completes a lot of looks,” said Cristian Macias, a third year English major.
As fall is kicking into full gear, so are the changes of peoples clothing choices. Although not everyone will have the same style they are creating their own fall fashion trends based on what makes them feel comfortable.
