The Thomas D. Wallace Student Success Center has officially opened its doors to students at Cal State Bakersfield, offering a new space for connection, support and community.
Named in honor of Dr. Thomas D. Wallace, Vice President for Student Affairs at CSUB, known for his advocacy for student success, the center was created to provide a space where students can thrive both academically and personally.
Ayanna Gridiron, a freshman sociology major, said she is “excited to see students coming into the center, playing games and asking questions.”
Located in Dorothy Donahoe Hall, Room 101K, the center opened this semester and is founded on the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion. It provides welcoming environment where students can receive academic support, mentorship and access to resources, including snacks, free printing, games, computer access and up to 10 free printing pages per day.
“The purpose of this center is not only to support students academically, but to give them a place where they feel seen, heard and valued,” said Liesha Henderson, a Student Assistant at the Black Student Success Center.” This is a hub! A great place to feel at home with our Black culture.”
Students can learn more about the center’s events and programs through campus emails/ flyers and are encouraged to drop by during the week. The center is in DDH 101k and is open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
