Nestled on the crest of the Panorama Bluffs, “Panorama Liquors” sign stands like a grand, white sentinel watching over Oildale. Known for its wide-ranging drink kit collection, this viral Bakersfield Staple will never disappoint your taste buds. It’s also where I discovered Banana Beer, a quirky cocktail kit that took my taste-buds for a ride. I was intrigued by the promise of a dessert in a drink (and the price point!) 

At $9.99, the kit has everything you need to make this drink effortlessly. 

The kit includes: 

• One large plastic cup for the ice. 

• One 7.5 can of “A&W Root Beer”,  

• Two 1.7 oz jars of “Banana Pudding Cream  flavored Ole Smokey Tennessee Moonshine”
  

In the comfort of my home, I added big chunks of ice and stirred in the soda and moonshine into a cold, creamy, and sweet-smelling treat.  

First Sip 

The first sip was a banana and vanilla ice cream wave of sweetness that lingered somewhere between a “Laffy Taffy”

and Banana bread. The root beer’s syrupy fizz offered a candy-like twist that blended perfectly with banana notes. The moonshine’s mild bite follows the initial soda shop rush. The liquefying effect is sneaky, so beware that it starts to pack its punch after a few sips. The aroma is reminiscent of Banana Pudding for Thanksgiving dessert. Fresh out of the fridge with a hint of sugar cookie on top.  

Verdict: 4.5 out of 5 Sips. 

The Banana Beer cocktail is a nostalgic and playful amalgamation of sweet dessert and creamy drink, sweet without toothache-inducing, and with the perfect amount of fizz to match one’s champagne taste on a beer budget.  I had to dock half a point because the buzzed stupor crept up on me quicker than anticipated. Nevertheless, for $9.99, I am not too mad at the extra bang for my buck. This drink is an indulgent, budget-friendly love child of a soda shop and science class, definitely is a boozy experiment gone right.
