Transcript:
Welcome, Runners, to your sixth episode of this semester’s Runner on Air.
I’m your host, Jay Cortes.
And I am your co-host, Marina Gonzalez.
Today is Tuesday, October 1st, 2024.
But we are going to take a jump back into 1986, looking into the Runner archives today.
And the date was Wednesday, October 1st, 1986.
And the headlines for that article read, CSB Remembers Kegley.
Charles William Kegley, a professor of philosophy at CSUB, died on September 1st, 1986.
And it’s an article remembering him as a professor.
He had his PhD.
He was a doctor.
And he was born in 1912 and lived to 1986.
So rest in peace to him.
We also have an article in that same year regarding drugs at CSUB.
And it is speaking on the wake of the death of basketball star, at the time, Len Bias, and subsequent drug overdose from death of football star, Don Rogers.
So they had an overdose in 1986.
And it talks about NCAA programs that are aimed to solving drug abuse on their campuses.
And it talks about a testing where they will be testing at least one urine test each quarter, which sounds outrageous.
And in the article, it also mentions the drug screening will not include a test for steroids because of the extreme cost and lack of testing facilities in the Western United States.
So that also kind of brings up a red flag.
If you’re testing NCAA sports, you should probably be testing for steroids, too.
But it does talk about a student who thinks it’s a good idea and an assistant basketball coach, Mike Roon.
And it says that, let’s see, one athlete, oh, sorry, the athlete said, this year, it’s too important for me to have it ruined by a teammate who is tripping while we are trying to win the game.
So I guess maybe like hallucinogens were a problem in 1986.
And this would only have applied to athletes.
So it wasn’t testing the students, only NCAA rule at the time.
They did not have drug testing.
So something flashback from 1986.
The same article or newspaper reads, frat rush party, Sigma Pi, a well-known fraternity on CSB, host of the first 1986-1987 Fraternity Fall Rush Party on Friday at a local night club called Vitals.
Have you ever heard of that night club?
Vitals?
I don’t think I’ve ever heard that club.
Yeah.
So I wonder if Sigma Pi is still a frat here in Bakersfield.
I’m going to have to ask around.
So that’s an interesting one.
I also like seeing the ads.
One of the ads placed in here was a Domino’s ad.
It says, no problem, pizza delivery is free, pick up the phone, and you’ll have a pizza delivered to you in 30 minutes.
And then on the bottom it says, our drivers carry less than $20.
So it’s funny because they don’t want you to jack the drivers.
It’s in Town and Country Village, and that’s over here right where the Trader Joe’s is.
That’s what John Hart told me.
Trader Joe’s, where’s that at?
Right here behind the Burger King.
You know, if you go down Stockdale.
You’ve never been to the Trader Joe’s here?
No, I don’t think I’ve eaten there before.
Trader Joe’s is like a grocery store.
They have like the best groceries, like organic stuff.
What else is next?
There’s like a restaurant called Little Italy or something like that.
That one I’m pretty sure I’ve heard of, Little Italy.
I think it’s still around.
Yeah.
I’ve been there.
It’s really good.
What else is in that shopping?
It’s literally the closest shopping center to here.
Like if you cross where, you know, the three flagpoles are, and you go towards Stockdale Highway.
Yeah, I think I know where you’re talking about.
And then you turn left where that Burger King is.
That shopping center right here.
Yeah, I think I know what you’re talking about.
Yeah, I don’t think there’s a Domino’s there.
I never saw a Domino’s there.
I don’t know if it’s there anymore.
Well, if it was there, it’s been there since 1986.
All right.
So that was 1986.
And let’s move on.
Same day, October 1st, but we are jumping to 1997.
So this one, the cover is Devin Edwards, three years old, shooting a basketball.
And it is showing a picture of the marketplace, the CSUB day at the marketplace.
And it also mentions a search for a new chancellor at CSU for CSU campuses.
So the Academic Senate at CSUB is an attempt to find a candidate for their chancellor.
I’m not sure who the chancellor is currently.
And I don’t even know how long they would hold the position for.
So 1997, they were looking for a chancellor.
And this same year, the same article, I mean, the same newspaper, it mentions a horoscope, which I find really interesting because the horoscope was written by a staff psychic.
So the runner apparently had a staff psychic in 1997, Megan Johnson.
Her title says right there, staff psychic.
And she takes a look into the future and offers this, looks into the stars for the future.
So some of them are pretty interesting.
Do you know your sign, Marina?
I’m a Sagittarius, do you know?
There’s like Aquarius, Libra.
I don’t remember mine.
I think it’s based on the year you were born, or the month you were born.
Well, I was born in June.
June.
Okay, so we have before 22nd or after the 22nd?
June 26th.
So then you would be a Cancer.
Yeah, yeah, I’m a Cancer.
Yeah.
Okay.
So then for, see, like, it’s weird, dude.
She says Cancer.
When you walk into a room, people notice.
That’s because your fly is often down.
Maybe you should try button down jeans or something, because this problem is getting a little out of hand.
Literally.
Okay, that is really strange, that’s a really strange thing to tell people.
Like, it’s just strange to publish, like, this is so weird.
But yeah, that was, so apparently you have a problem with your zipper.
That she’s done in the future, bro.
And for mine, it says, do a little dance, make a little love, get down tonight.
Becomes your theme song as you dance the week away.
Oh, yeah.
I know.
Certain function.
Yeah, I know.
I know that song.
Yeah.
That’s the Bee Gees?
No.
No, I don’t think it’s that.
Earth, Wind and Fire?
I don’t know.
It’s somebody like that.
Yeah, it’s somebody like that.
But that’s, I remember hearing that song on the movie Deuce Bigalow, Male Gigalow.
Yeah.
Where Rob Schneider was doing the sexy stripper dance for that client of his.
That movie was hilarious.
It’s KC and the Sunshine Band.
So that’s who it was.
Get down tonight.
Get down.
Yeah, that movie was hilarious.
The girl would fall asleep and so she had to tie her hair.
And the woman with the Tourette’s syndrome.
Yeah, that was crazy.
At the baseball game, everyone started cheering, yeah.
That was a riot.
Oh, dude, that movie was hilarious.
I totally forgot about that movie.
But yeah, some of these are like very telling.
The one that she says for Leo, this isn’t biased or anything, she says, like always, you rule this week.
Not because I’m a Leo or anything, but you do rule the roost.
So to speak.
You can transport people with your stories into another world and often do in order to impress people.
They all love you.
So you don’t even have to do anything to earn friends and admirers.
Leo.
But it’s not because she’s a Leo or anything.
Dude, this girl’s wild.
Megan Johnson from the 1997 Runner.
There was some other one.
Like she says tourists should watch South Park.
She says go to your local pub in the jukebox for Geminis and type in 0101 and her psychic abilities tell her that that song is going to be stuck in your head all week.
Where do you even find a jukebox?
I don’t think they have them in restaurants anymore.
There was one restaurant, I don’t know if it was Ruby’s, that used to have jukeboxes on the table and you could put a nickel and it would play a song.
I don’t know if I’m remembering that right, but it was like a vague, vague memory when I was a kid in the 90s though.
But that was probably a thing like before.
So yeah, horoscopes for, I mean, Capricorn?
She talks about fried chicken, may sound like a healthy meal, but it’s really not.
What?
Yeah, fried chicken is not healthy.
I don’t know.
This is not what I think about when I think of horoscopes.
I don’t think she got the whole like how to do horoscopes memo.
So yeah, moving on from Megan Johnson, the staff psychic.
I’m also looking at the ads.
They have an Apple ad here.
That’s cool because it talks about prices.
So Power Macintosh 6500 had a 32 gigabyte, 12 x CD, multiple scan, 15 AV, I don’t even know what that means.
A zip drive.
A zip drive.
That’s like a floppy disk, an Ethernet cable port, video in, NTSC out.
I don’t even know what that is.
And it was at $2,588.
That’s pretty expensive, dude.
And this is like, what, 1997?
I mean, for like, if you count for inflation, this is probably like $10,000 right now.
Wasn’t that like for old school, like flip phones back then?
I don’t know.
No, this is like a full-blown computer, so the phones were probably cheaper.
And the phones didn’t do as much.
Like the cheapest one is the Power Macintosh 4400 with a 32 slash 2 gigabyte, I guess that’s like 2 gigabytes of RAM and 32 gigabytes of storage, I’m guessing.
But it doesn’t have like the Ethernet port or any of the ports.
And it’s $1,700.
So yeah, computers, which is crazy because I feel like that’s the same price now.
For a computer, like $1,700, that gets you like a MacBook Pro. So that’s crazy because the price stayed the same, but they advanced it like, I don’t know, it’s just weird to look back.
And they’re offering rebates.
So like $300 cashback, $200 cashback, and then they have a printer.
That’s $300 and you get $50 cashback.
Alright, so that was 1997.
And last, we’re going to go into 2014.
And this one is an interesting one because it talks about on the cover, um, the fact of life, animal facility to close.
But Marina, you said it’s still open.
Yeah, Komzu is still open.
So it says that in June 2015, there’s going to be a closure to the FACT, which is like a facility for animals that are injured.
And then they rescue them and they bring them back to the wild.
But they’re still doing that.
Yeah, they’re still doing that to this day.
I think maybe, I’m guessing maybe it was going to close down that year because maybe the director was going to like finish working there.
I don’t know.
The zoo has been under a new director for the past several years.
Okay, so maybe they closed and then just reopened?
Yeah.
Because it talks about three centers, the California Living Museum, the Tehachapi Wildlife Rehab, and then the Critter Creek Wildlife Station.
And you said you worked at one of them?
Yeah, I worked for the Kern County Superintendent of Schools for the past year and I did summer camp over at Calm Zoo last year, last summer, and then this summer, because that’s one of our camp locations.
It is pretty cool being at Calm Zoo because you get to see all the cool animals that they have on exhibit over there.
What was like your favorite part of the exhibit, like working there?
I loved getting, I loved taking the kids around the zoo on the little tour, showing them all the animals.
Yeah.
My favorite animals are the badger, the bears, and the mountain lions.
Oh, you said they had two bears, right?
What were the bears’ names?
They have two black bears there.
Their names are Cinnamon and Louie.
They have three female mountain lions named Sage, Laurel, and Misty.
They have a badger named Scrubs, and they have a bunch of other animals on exhibit.
They have deer, they have hawks, a condor, they have condors, a bald eagle.
They have a reptile house for like snakes, lizards, and stuff.
Yeah, this one shows the owl barn.
They have like a bunch of owls.
They have owls.
They have a little pond over there for like birds, a little bird area.
Sounds sick.
And they have coyotes.
So they still do rescues, awesome.
Yeah, they still do rescue.
And actually in the next few years, they are going to be expanding the zoo a lot more because the property below them was bought by them.
So they’re going to be expanding the zoo a lot more, and they’re going to get more animals on exhibit.
Oh, that sounds cool.
Yeah.
You’ve been talking about it.
I think you also mentioned it when we had our foreign exchange student on in Germany.
Yeah, I told her about it.
Okay, cool.
So this same newspaper, this issue from 2014, October 1st, it also mentions the Fab Lab opening up and the Fab Lab.
So 2014, then that means it’s been open for 10 years.
And it talks about the 3D printing and how it’s open to the public.
Let’s see, it talks about the managers, and you could like design something in 2D, turn it into 3D, and build figurines, which you could still do now.
When we used to have Elijah on the show, he would always be at the Fab Lab, like making a little figurines for like board games and stuff.
So pretty interesting look into the Fab Labs opening back in 2014.
And it said that it was, she added that Chevron, so now we have that sign outside too, that Chevron dedicated $10 million to build the Fab Labs.
So that’s pretty, pretty cool from Chevron to help us out with that.
We also have that sign outside, I wonder how much that costs.
So Chevron definitely helps us out, which I think we’re like the number one oil producer in California or something like that as a county, so it makes sense.
This also mentions Biden stopping on campus, but it was interesting because it was when he was vice president.
So it talks about him being vice president, coming to speak on September 15th, and he was going to be at the Icardo Center.
So 10 years ago when he was vice president, he was on campus.
And the same article has an interesting, I mean the same paper has an interesting article about the Kern County Fair, and I think you’re going to like this one, Marina.
It says, good riddance to the Kern County Fair.
And one quote from it that I thought was interesting was, so this is by Nathan Sanchez, senior columnist.
He writes, one of the downfalls of the fair is how expensive it is.
The fair will suck money out of your wallet like a vacuum cleaner, except this vacuum cleaner smells like smoke and armpit with a hint of animal poop.
So accurate.
This guy does not have any filter.
Yeah, and that’s exactly true because the fair is still kind of the same.
The food, the drinks, it’s all expensive.
You got to pay to do the carnival games and go on the rides and stuff.
So yeah, the fair just completely drains your wallet.
Yeah.
I honestly, I want to meet this guy, Nathan Sanchez, because he’s hilarious.
Like what is he doing now?
I hope he’s still writing.
So he talks about like the entertainment and he said, I went on a day when an acapella group in different colored bowling shirts was on the stage.
And to be honest, it was almost like the Wiggles ditched the creepy pirate and started a bowling team.
This is so funny.
So yeah.
Oh, and he talks about meeting a carny and he said, I always wondered whether the word comes from carnival or incarcerated, because it’s widely accepted that most of these people working at the fair are ex-convicts.
So I played the what was he in for game in my head.
In short, the fair is terrible.
The catharsis of writing about it makes up for it, though.
It pleases me.
I’ll find a way to get in for free.
So you’ll probably see me there next year.
I have friends and I’m not a weirdo who will throw away socializing for principle.
So he’s sounds like an interesting guy.
Yeah, he’s saying good riddance to the fair.
And I think Marina, you’re agreed good riddance to the fair.
Yeah, I agree.
I mean, I mean, I don’t want to go there if things are just going to be too expensive.
And besides, I can’t really spend too much money right now.
So yeah, I’m not going to bother.
And it’s true.
Everything is covered in dirt.
And they talk about the picnic tables are trying to kill you.
The only thing I like about the fair is that they get really cool vendors to appear at the event to sell some like really cool like products, which I which is the only thing I like.
Yeah.
But he says that everything there is $10.
So it’s like, everything’s expensive.
Parking is $10.
But he’s saying like every vendor like is trying to sell something like for a high price.
So he talks about like, he says that the picnic tables are pointy things made out of metal.
And it should come with a sign reading caution hepatitis served here.
And he says that you have, you’re going to the fair prepare to be bulldozed in the shin by some inconsiderate dunce with the stroller.
You don’t get to use your baby as a weapon lady.
And that cigarette smoke is gross.
So it figures that it’s an absolutely everywhere at the fair.
Yeah, I wouldn’t go to the fair at night because that’s when people are going to start drinking.
You’re gonna get all rowdy and stuff.
Yeah, so that’s his honest take on the fair Nathan Sanchez from 2014.
And that was a pretty interesting take that’s still relevant to this day.
So that was a funny one.
All right, and that was the runner archive.
A look back on today’s date from 1986 1997 on 2014.
And now jumping into what was going on this week.
So this week, an article from local ABC 23 says that the final beam was placed on the Tejon hard rock cafe, hotel and casinos foundation.
So Tejon is going to be getting a hard rock casino.
They said that it should be done and on the article it mentions that it should be done late 2025.
And the foundation, the last piece of the foundation has just been set.
So they’re going to start obviously building the rest of the building.
And that should be like huge for Tejon.
Have you ever been to Tejon, Marina?
Because you’ve like lived here your whole life, right, Kern County?
I have driven, we have driven through the reservation dozens of times every time we drove down to go to Anaheim for our trip to like Disneyland and stuff.
And we’ve also my mom and I have also gone shopping in the shopping outlets.
Yeah, yeah, the shopping outlets there and stuff.
Are the outlets considered like on the reservation now, right?
I think I think it kind of I think the outlet is like, kind of on the reservation.
Because don’t they have like different laws for reservations?
I don’t have different police different laws.
I mean, if I mean a reservation would probably have a tribal police.
Yeah, yeah, like a tribal police, like there’s different federal laws.
I think even that’s why you can have a casino, probably.
But I’m not sure how close like the reservation is to the freeway.
I’ve only been to the outlets.
I’ve never been to like the reservation or seen like where they’re building it.
So I wonder how close it is to the outlets.
But that should be cool.
I would be I have been to the Hard Rock in Vegas.
So that’d be cool to go to the Hard Rock in Tejon.
That’s definitely going to bring like so much tourism.
And then you have the outlets right there.
So it’s gonna be like a whole little like market.
If it’s close by, you know, that’d be pretty cool.
I’d be I’d want to check it out.
All right.
So local ABC News also talks about the fair and like the biggest events at the fair.
Now that it’s coming to a close, they’re kind of seeing like what the numbers were.
And the biggest event was the the night that you 40 performed that was like their biggest event.
And they also had like a Bible study night that was really big.
All right.
So that was ABC 23 local news.
Moving on to KGETV, some of their headlines.
One of their headlines is a Crimewatch headline.
So it says that the In Shape Gym Kidnapping Defendant arraigned a second suspect or second suspect to be arraigned on Tuesday.
So there’s two suspects and like a kidnapping of a woman who was leaving the In Shape Gym to go home.
And she was kidnapped and like attacked.
I’m not gonna read like the details because pretty brutal like what happened to her.
But it talks about the arraignment and how they have like an accomplice now.
So he’s getting arraigned.
The Crimewatch also mentions a trial beginning for Bakersfield man who’s accused of killing his ex’s mother and stepfather.
So he got jealous and in order to get back at her, he killed her mother and common law stepfather in March of last year.
So now the case is going to trial.
The prosecutor talks about the case being about like power and control.
So pretty brutal stuff.
One thing I noticed looking through like the local news, like last time Jossie was here she was talking about media bias.
I don’t know if this is like a form of media bias or what.
But I’ve noticed that ABC 23, like their local news would be really positive, like feel good stories about like the community doing something good for like or an organization doing something good for the community or like something new being like donated or like something good.
And then KGETV will be like Crimewatch about like some lady that got attacked and murdered and left on the side of the road or something or like some like this one where this guy kills his like ex’s mother.
Like what’s their deal?
Like I guess it’s reaching like a different type of market because I guess you have people that are more into positive news and then you have people that want to hear like the gritty negative stuff.
But like I would not want to read a KGETV article on an airwave because it’s like trigger warning after trigger warning.
Like if you if you were to read like the details of this article, like what happened to the woman that was kidnapped, it’s pretty crazy stuff.
Yeah.
See, if I eventually get a job with my degree at KGET, I have no interest in doing writing stories on court cases, crimes, you know.
I don’t want to write about sad stuff.
I want to write positive stories or write stories like I’m interested in, which is why I prefer to write more opinion or feature stories.
Yeah.
So maybe you should go look at ABC 23 then instead.
Yeah.
Maybe.
Yeah.
Maybe.
Hopefully ABC 23 offers some like internships for like new upcoming talent.
Yeah.
Because every time I’m on the KGETV, it’s like the first headline is always like somebody got murdered, somebody is going to court, like someone got killed or robbed.
And then it’s like on same time on ABC 23, it always be like some cool organization that’s helping people.
So I guess tune in to what you prefer.
If you like positive news, then I would say tune in probably more to ABC 23, even like the broadcast of it.
And then if you’re into like the the dark stuff, like the crime watch news or like those people that are into like those podcasts, like those crime podcasts, I would say then maybe KGETV is your spot to watch the news.
So yeah, that’s a local news.
And then for weather, we got a crazy like heat wave coming up.
So today the high is 100 degrees.
Tomorrow Wednesday, the high is 103.
Thursday the high is 103.
Friday the high is 101.
And then Saturday we get a break at 99.
So that’s like the week looking or coming into the into Saturday, it looks like it’s going to be 100 all week.
So that’s your Bakersfield weather.
I would imagine you’re used to it by now, Marina, but I’m not used to it.
I mean, I am kind of used to it because I grew up here.
But still, I still hate it.
I just can’t deal with it anymore.
I can’t.
I’m not used to it.
Like walking to my car, I can feel myself like running out of breath, like getting out of the shower, like it does not feel any like I feel like I’m sweating already by the time I get out of the shower.
It’s crazy.
Yeah, I’m just ready for winter already.
Yeah.
And my professor was telling me that it’s like, there’s no like, once the November hits, it’s like freezing.
Like there’s no like, in between, but the 100 and like the 60 or something like 50, like you either 100 degrees or it’s like 50 degrees like a real desert in this bowl.
Yeah, so that’s the weather.
And that will be local news and weather for the runner on air.
We’re going to move on now.
And Marina has another book recommendation for us.
And we had mentioned this book before.
It was a Star Wars book, correct?
It is called Ahsoka by E.K. Johnston.
Okay, so I was going to take this time to kind of find out a little bit more about Star Wars because I’ve seen like, like a good part of the main movies, but I’ve noticed there’s like a lot of side stories now.
And like, different like animations now that talks about like, there’s like the Clone Wars one I think.
And then yeah, like fanfare gets involved.
So how does this fit into like the whole Star Wars series?
So yeah, there’s the first is there is the original trilogy that came out years ago.
And then there’s the prequel trilogy, which is like the backstory and events that happened before the original trilogy.
And then we got another trilogy like, almost 10 years ago.
Okay, so yeah, the the first originals, and then you have like this new ones release recently too.
But then you also have like the animated side series.
As far as like, what, like, what time period?
What time period does this book take place in?
So how does it fit in?
So this book basically tells the story of the character Ahsoka Tano, who is like my number one favorite Star Wars character.
And she first started out as a cartoon character first, and then she eventually became a live action character.
So and it basically tells the story of what happened to Ahsoka after she survived the end of the Clone Wars and when the Empire rose to power.
Okay, so the the because I’ve seen like clips of the Ahsoka, like the animated one, I think she’s in the Clone Wars and she gets trained by like Anakin or something.
She was first in so Ahsoka was first introduced into the Star Wars universe in the Clone Wars film.
And then we get to see her grow more as a Jedi throughout the whole Clone Wars series because there’s a movie and then there’s a film, there’s a movie and as a series, right.
So now currently like if what are the new ones like Rogue One?
Rogue One is basically the events that happened before the original film A New Hope.
Okay, so that’s like a prequel.
Yeah.
And then you have like the what was the one where it’s like the last Jedi and like Luke Skywalker is like the Rise of Skywalker.
Yeah.
So that was like when they reintroduced the series, right?
The Rise of Skywalker was like the first introduction?
No, the Rise of Skywalker was the final film that they made.
Oh, okay.
So that if you’re like on the end of the timeline, that would be the end of the timeline.
The Rise of Skywalker.
Well, like what, like what film are you trying to talk about?
The Rise of Skywalker.
The one where the guy, he’s like old and he finds him on the mountain.
Oh, yeah.
That was when we first see him see Luke Skywalker in what was it called?
Like they have like the girl has to go up to the mountain and like Force Awakens.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
That one.
It was Force Awakens.
So that’s when they reintroduce the series again.
It’s Force Awakens, right?
Force Awakens, Last Jedi and then Rise of Skywalker.
Okay.
Rise of Skywalker.
Is that the one where he’s like, like projecting himself like holographically so they all start shooting him?
He’s a, he uses it where he like, like what are you talking about?
He like projects, like he’s on the mountain still, but he like projects his body or something.
That was in Last Jedi.
So that’s like the most recent one?
In Rise of Skywalker, Luke Skywalker is a force ghost.
Oh, okay.
Is that the one where he fights the girl, the dude with the mask fights the girl in the forest?
They have like a big battle where like the whole world’s falling apart and they’re like in a forest in snow and they have like this like final battle, the girl, Skywalker girl versus the dude with the mask.
That was in Force Awakens.
Okay.
Yeah.
See, I’m like all mixed up here.
So the, so, so the book itself would take place on, you’re saying prequel, like when she’s younger.
Yeah.
So yeah.
Cause Ahsoka was introduced to us in the Clone Wars.
We get to see her grow more as a Jedi and she was the apprentice of Anakin Skywalker.
But then, but after, but Ahsoka, like towards the end of the Clone Wars, Ahsoka left the Jedi order after she was framed for a crime that she didn’t commit.
And when the truth finally came out about her being framed, she felt so betrayed by the Jedi because they didn’t like really stand up for her.
They basically turned their backs on her.
So that’s why she left the order because of how betrayed she felt.
But she does come back in the final season of the Clone Wars and it also shows us like the events of what happened to her, like when the Clone Wars ended and how the Empire rose to power.
But she, cause when that happened, when Order 66 happened, that was when the Jedi were like all wiped out by the clone troopers they served with because they were, they turned against them because of that order.
Ahsoka survived Order 66 and she had to go into hiding in order to, in order to be, in order to avoid the Empire finding out that she’s a Jedi and they end up killing her.
So this is all in that book.
Well, yeah, it is in the book.
So what happened is when Ahsoka went into hiding, she sought refuge on a, on a moon, on a farming moon called Raeda.
She became friends with the local farmers, but then clone, then storm troopers arrived to the moon because they were trying to rob the moon of like their resources and she had to leave the plant, leave the moon in order to avoid them finding out who she was.
Okay.
So is it more like, um, telling the story, but just from her perspective, like a coinciding with what goes on like in the animation and in the movies?
Oh yeah.
It has mentioned some events that happened in like the Clone Wars as well.
Um, so is it like birth to death, like her whole life, like, or is it, um, just the few moments of like the, the wars and then being betrayed and then afterwards, or is it like her whole like story from birth to death, the book?
It’s not like a full autobiography about her whole life, but it does mention some events that happen in the Clone Wars that Ahsoka was a part of.
Okay.
So then what was like the last, uh, like act of the book?
The final act of the book was then on when Ahsoka came back to Raeda after she was discovered by, by the character, Senator Bail Organa, who was the, he’s the character who formed the, the rebel army so they could fight against the empire cause the, cause the rebellion is mentioned in the original trilogy.
And so Ahsoka got reinforcements from Senator Organa.
She goes back to Raeda to rescue all of the farmers that were kidnapped by an inquisitor who is a Jedi hunter.
She battled the inquisitor, defeated him, and she was able to create her, her iconic white lightsabers.
She rescued the farmers, they evacuated the moon, and then she decided to join Senator Organa’s rebellion.
Does she have her own film or just her own series?
No, she has her, she got her own series cause remember she started out as a cartoon and she became a live action.
The very first time we get to see Ahsoka as a live action character is in an episode of The Mandalorian.
Right.
Okay.
Cause I’m seeing Ahsoka on here.
What is the, like what’s the streaming service that’s on Disney plus?
If you want to watch all Star Wars things, it’s all on Disney plus.
Okay.
Cause I’m looking at the chronological order of like the Star Wars and it says that the Acolyte is first, but that’s also like the latest released one.
Yeah, that, that was the latest Star Wars series they just released.
What’s that one about the Acolyte?
I’ve never even heard of that one.
Yeah.
I never heard of that one either, but I guess it tells maybe like the backstory of the Jedi order before the prequel film, The Phantom Menace.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Cause it says that this is before The Phantom Menace, like the chronological order, but it was released in 1999.
The Phantom Menace was.
Yeah.
And then the Acolyte says 2024.
Yeah.
So we see Phantom Menace, that’s actually my favorite, um, prequel, prequel film of the whole franchise.
But see it’s not even a prequel anymore cause now you have the Acolyte.
They’re like, the Star Wars stuff is getting crazy, man.
I was just, like, I just started figuring out the freaking like Force Awakening stuff and now they’re throwing new stuff.
Like what’s Andor?
Andor, it tells the story of the character Andor because he’s also in Rogue One, but he gets kind of, but towards the end of that film, he gets killed off because he’s not featured in the original trilogy.
Where are these characters getting their own, like, where’s the Jar Jar Binks one?
Oh, that’s the one we need.
Oh, a Jar Jar one would be cool.
All right.
So I’m going to read the chronological chronological order real quick.
So the Acolyte 2024 is the first one now, uh, Star Wars, The Phantom Menace 1999, second, uh, third Star Wars, Attack of the Clones, episode two, 2002.
And then we have Star Wars, The Clone Wars, which was released in 2008, the movie.
But then we have Star Wars, Clone Wars, the series, which was released in 2008 come after chronologically.
And then you have Star Wars Tale of the Jedi 2022, which I don’t remember.
Oh, that one, that one’s pretty recent because it came out like last year, I think.
That one basically tells, it has, it has different episodes of them.
Like some of it tells the backstory of the characters, Count Dooku and Qui-Gon Jinn.
Qui-Gon Jinn was, was Obi-Wan Kenobi’s master, but Count Dooku, who’s a Sith Lord, but he was a Jedi once and he was Qui-Gon’s master.
But that before he eventually went to the dark side.
Is Qui-Gon Samuel L. Jackson?
No, no.
That’s Master Windu.
Oh, okay.
Qui-Gon Jinn is played by Liam Neeson, who’s one of my, yeah, Qui-Gon’s one of my favorite Jedis and Liam Neeson, he is one of my favorite actors.
Does Liam Neeson fight, who’s that guy with all the arms, who’s like half machine?
Half machine?
Yeah.
He like turns into a ball and then he could like, he rides like this crazy motorcycle that’s like a circle over him.
And then his arms turn into like four arms and he has like four lightsabers, but he’s like a machine.
Oh, that’s General Grievous.
Grievous.
That guy’s sick.
He’s like my favorite villain.
Oh yeah.
He’s a, he’s pretty cool.
He’s a pretty cool character.
Um, does Liam Neeson, that’s not him that fights him, right?
No, Obi-Wan is the one who fights Grievous the most.
Dude, Grievous was sick.
Cause remember Qui-Gon Jinn, he gets killed off in Phantom Menace.
So Tales of the Jedi, is that a series or a movie?
It’s a series.
It tells like this, there’s episodes that tell the story, the backstory of Count Dooku and Qui-Gon Jinn, and then there’s episodes that feature, that’s all about Ahsoka as well.
Like how she was founded as a youngling and eventually began her training in the Jedi, how she grew and how she grew in her training.
I haven’t gotten to that yet.
So we have number six, Tales of the Jedi, and then number seven would be Revenge of the Sith.
And that was like the big one I remember when it came out, that that was like going to complete finally the series.
Well, yeah, because remember in Revenge of the Sith, that’s when Order 66 happened.
The Jedi were murdered by the clone, by the clone army that turned against them because they eventually became the stormtroopers.
That was like the, the, what do they call it in building when it’s like the cornerstone, like you put it in the middle, because it was like, yeah, because it was like they had the beginning already was the Phantom Menace and then they had already shown the end, which was A New Hope, right?
Or no, Return of the Jedi, because they showed the ending first, right?
They showed the 1983 Return of the Jedi first.
And then like, they had already shown the Phantom Menace in 1999.
So you already had the beginning and the end.
Yeah, because then Revenge of the Sith came out last, but it was going to be like the middle stone.
Yeah, because Episodes four, five, and six, the original trilogy came out years ago.
I feel like that’s when they should have just ended it.
And then many years later, they decided to do the prequel trilogy as the backstory to the to the to the original trilogy.
But see, at that point, they were just milking it because it was like, that’s no longer George Lucas.
Which I mean, I think was like complete when Revenge of the Sith dropped.
Yeah, well, George Lucas did create did create the prequel trilogy.
Really?
Yeah, he created the prequel trilogy.
But you know, I feel like Disney has diluted the whole Star Wars universe over the over recent recently, because of you know, the different spin off series and stuff.
That’s not even like when Revenge of the Sith happens.
That’s barely like the seventh movie, there’s still like 15 other ones after that.
So then we have Star Wars Tales of the Empire, which is another one I’ve never heard of.
Oh, yeah, that one’s pretty recent.
It just came out like it’s 2024.
Yeah, it just came out this year.
Yeah, Tales of the Empire, it has like different like, it tells the story of like certain characters that was mentioned in the Clone Wars, like it features the character Barriss Offee.
She was the one who framed Ahsoka for a crime she didn’t commit.
And then she got arrested for that.
So now it’s telling the story of how she’s going to the dark side.
And then we have Star Wars Bad Batch, which that one I’ve heard of.
Oh, yeah, I heard the Bad Batch is pretty cool.
It’s this like awesome elite squad of clone troopers.
And then you have Solo, a Star Wars story, the early life of Han Solo.
Yeah, that one I saw.
And then I guess now there’s a Obi Wan Kenobi.
Yeah, Obi Wan, it tells the story of Obi Wan.
It’s taking it’s taking place 10 years after the events that happened to him in Revenge of the Sith.
And is that a series or a movie?
It’s a series.
It features young Princess Leia.
She got kidnapped by like a band of pirates.
It’s never going to end.
Yeah, she gets kidnapped by a band of pirates and and then Senator Organa calls Obi Wan asking for his help to rescue her.
All right.
And then we have Andor 2023 right after.
You skipped one.
Star Wars Rebels.
No, that one says comes after.
It says that Star Wars Rebels is after Andor.
Oh.
I mean, this is from the Star Wars dot com, so they could be maybe maybe like interlaces.
Oh, you’re on the app.
I’m on the Disney.
I’m on the Disney plus app.
Oh, so there’s some controversy in that.
We’re going to have to check that one out.
The Star Wars Rebels and Andor.
And Ahsoka Tano is in Star Wars Rebels as well.
OK, but it’s like an older version of her.
So Star Wars Rebels.
When did that one come out?
That one, I mean, it’s 2014, but like I never remember.
It basically tells the story of a series.
Yeah.
It’s a series.
It tells the story of Ezra Bridger and Kanan Jarrus, who is a Jedi who survived Order 66.
Ahsoka ends up coming into this whole thing.
They join the rebellion to try to fight against the Empire and stuff, dude.
And now at Disney Plus, you could watch this all in order.
That’s insane.
Like before, when you could watch all the movies in order, that would take you a week.
Now it’s like endless.
But you know what?
One of the episodes of Star Wars Rebels, there is an episode where there’s an epic fight between Ahsoka Tano and Darth Vader.
And then she learns the truth that Darth Vader is Anakin, who turned to the dark side.
So she learned the truth before Luke?
Yeah, she learned the truth before Luke did.
You know what?
Because Ahsoka also appeared in an episode of the book of Boba Fett.
And there is an episode where Luke Skywalker is in it, and him and Ahsoka meet for the first time.
So do they throw images from the like animations or from the live action in the books or it’s like all just like a novel?
I mean, there are, I mean, like I said, there are some events mentioned.
No, like images, like pictures, like are there pictures?
No pictures.
So it’s not graphic at all.
Okay.
So then we have, let’s see.
So we had Islandor and Star Wars Rebels, you’re saying that could be like interchangeable.
And then right after you have Rogue One, a Star Wars story.
And that’s when they like rebooted.
And then, and then you have Star Wars A New Hope, which is an old one that comes right after which is so weird.
And then you have the Empire Strikes Back, back the original trilogy, and then Return of the Jedi, which was also from the original trilogy.
And then we have a newer one.
So we jump from 1983 release to the Mandalorian in 2019.
Yeah, Mandalorian is taking place after the Rebellion defeated the Empire.
And that I feel like was the first series now that kicked off everyone having their own story.
Yeah.
Yeah, I think that’s where everything, all these spinoff series started happening right after Mandalorian.
Yeah, because even back in like 2019, I feel like Disney plus was barely starting to be a thing.
Because Star Wars Resistance in 2018.
I don’t remember that.
And I don’t think that was on Disney plus originally.
Okay, so then you have the Mandalorian.
And then you had mentioned the Book of Boba Fett.
So that’s not actually a book.
It’s a series, but it’s called the Book of Boba Fett.
Yeah, it’s called, it’s called.
That confused me.
See, this is the thing.
But we don’t see Boba Fett.
We don’t actually see Boba Fett come back until he appeared in season two of Mandalorian.
Because remember, we thought that he got killed in Return of the Jedi.
But no, he actually survived and was still alive.
He got his…
He’s the cool mercenary, right?
With the jetpack.
Yeah.
And he got his armor.
He got his Mandalorian armor back.
Is Boba Fett the son or the father?
Because it’s like a father son duo, right?
He’s the son of Jango Fett, the clone template.
And that was like the father son mercenary duo, right?
Yeah.
So, Jango Fett and Boba are introduced to us in Attack of the Clones.
Yeah, that’s right.
Boba was a boy.
Boba was a boy at the time.
And it’s the same actor, Temera Morrison, who played Jango.
And now he’s playing Boba, because you remember they’re clones.
Yeah.
And he was also the clone troopers.
Oh, yeah.
They’re clones.
That’s right.
Yeah.
Remember, he’s also…
It was like his son, but it was a clone, right?
Yeah.
A clone that he adopted as a son.
Okay.
Now I remember.
So, that was the Book of Boba Fett.
And then we have Ahsoka.
Yeah.
And then we got Ahsoka.
And then she falls into the Star Wars universe.
So then how does she…
What’s her deal with Boba Fett?
How does she relate to Boba Fett?
Well, she doesn’t relate to Boba Fett, because she never knew him.
She only appeared in an episode of the Book of Boba Fett.
It was when the Mandalorian warrior, Din Djarin, went to this planet that Luke Skywalker was on, because he was training a little youngling that Mando had rescued.
And he went over there to go visit him.
And Ahsoka was there visiting as well.
Anakin killed all those younglings.
I know.
That’s still the biggest heartbreak of all the Star Wars series.
And the other heartbreak part is when Anakin’s wife, Padme, died giving birth to the twins.
Oh, yeah.
See, that was all revenge.
Wasn’t that all in revenge?
Revenge of the Sith.
Yeah.
That was like the darkest hour of Star Wars.
Uh-huh.
Yeah.
And I remember when I was little, my parents actually took me to go see Revenge of the Sith in theaters.
I mean, it’s kind of vague.
It’s kind of a vague memory for me, because I was little, and it was 2005.
Yeah.
I was in like sixth grade.
Yeah.
But I remember.
My parents did take me to go see that movie in theaters.
Yeah.
I remember.
This was back when I used to go to something called TLC, which is like an after school program where all the kids would just hang out, and then we would have camp leaders.
And one of the leaders, I remember him, his name was Casey.
He was really cool.
And he was addicted to Star Wars, like he probably still is.
And he would always be talking about like, oh, I can’t wait for Revenge of the Sith to come out.
It’s going to finally complete the story, and we’re going to get to find out what happened with Anakin.
And I would always be so confused, because I’m like, dude, you already know what happened.
What do you mean?
The end of the story already happened.
And he’s like, yeah, but it’s not the same.
You don’t get to see it.
You got to see why it happened and what made him be like Darth Vader.
Because I’m like, dude, you already know it becomes Darth Vader.
What’s the point?
But now I see, like, OK, he had a point to see what turned him so dark to become Darth Vader.
It was a very dark movie.
But I remember he would always be like, oh, I don’t know if I want to take my little brothers to watch it, because that one’s going to be pretty bad.
And it’s like the first one that was ever PG-13 or something.
No, the other ones are PG-13.
Really?
Yeah.
Oh, OK. Because he was like, yeah, he was like, I don’t know, man.
Like, one of my little brothers is 10, and he wants to see it, but it’s PG-13.
I’m like, you’re such a nerd.
I literally never paid attention to it.
And this is me in sixth grade.
I was like, I’ve seen Rated R movies, dude, like, what are you talking about?
So it was just funny.
So Ahsoka, 2023.
And then we have Star Wars Resistance, 2018, which I’ve never heard of.
And then The Force Awakens, which I did see.
And then, like you’re saying, The Last Jedi, and then The Rise of Skywalker ends the timeline.
Yeah, we saw, yeah, when we heard that those trilogy films, Force Awakens, Last Jedi, Rise of Skywalker were coming out, my mom and I, we saw them, we saw each of them in theaters after they came out.
And boy, we were like, so hyped.
I wouldn’t say I was like, couldn’t wait.
But it was definitely something that was like, OK, just to be a part of the culture, it was a big deal.
Like, not just for Star Wars fans, but for like, American culture.
Because Star Wars, I feel like at this point now is synonymous with like, American culture.
Oh, yeah, we’re, my family and I, we are huge Star Wars fans.
Like, we watch the films all the time.
And you know, we’ve also gotten pictures with the characters at Disneyland, too.
We’ve gotten pictures with Boba Fett, Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Rey.
The Star Wars land is so cool.
Like, I wasn’t expecting it to be that cool.
Like, even the food and stuff, like, that’s my favorite part is the food.
Like, they got really clever with it.
Like, it looks like the ube, there’s like a ube one and there’s like a coffee with the Cocoa Puffs or something.
That one’s good.
It’s like, but and then they even have those sodas that look like little bombs.
Have you seen those?
It’s like a little Coca-Cola, but it looks like a grenade.
No, I haven’t seen that.
They might have discontinued it because it’s like, nowadays, you know, they don’t want to have any weapons or anything.
But when I, when it first opened, like I went the first month or something that it opened, they had vendors like, because you know how they have like those vendors, right?
They sell like on a cart and stuff.
But this guy like in his cart when he opened it, it had like the spray and the Coca-Cola, but they were shaped like little grenades.
I could probably show you a picture, but I have a feeling like they discontinued it.
Like some Karen was like, they’re selling weapons.
So it’s they probably don’t have any more.
But I remember I tried to hold on to I don’t think I have it anymore, because it was like, it’s like a collectible.
Or you know, I think I gave it to my friend to put in the studio.
So hopefully he still has it.
Or maybe it might have been like a limited time thing.
But I hope it’s look, it was right here.
See, they had the Oh, yeah, I think I have seen.
But yeah, they had these custom Coke bottles, Diet Coke, and then the Sprite.
And then you had like the weird language like changed.
Like for I don’t know what language.
But this was like the first Yeah, see, I remember seeing.
Yeah, I remember I bought one to drink, but then I bought one to like save because I was like, dude, this is like a moment right here in history.
And yeah, you probably can’t buy those anywhere else.
I mean, maybe online now you can get them on eBay or something.
But yeah, I had that and then they had like a coffee and then they had like a purple drink or something like a purple cake.
So I like the food.
What’s the name of the cafe that they have?
Oh, it’s a it’s a cantina.
Yeah, the Yeah, it’s like the something cantina.
Yeah, the cantina that was featured in the original movie.
Olga’s cantina, that’s what it was.
Yeah, the decorations are cool.
Like the bar looks so sick.
Like, yeah, I wasn’t like, super hype.
But when I saw it, I was like, Oh, whoa, like now I see the vision like it was super sick.
My mom got to make a droid in the droid shop over there.
And we’ve also gone shopping in the lightsaber shop too, because I bought myself a few lightsabers.
Oh, yeah, you could like make your own like custom one, right?
And they’re like, super legit looking.
Yeah, you can make a custom one.
But they also had some like, like battery powered lightsabers on sale in there.
Yeah, like the different characters one.
They even have like the helmets I saw they had helmets, like clone helmets.
Yeah, they have a lot of cool merchandise for the Star Wars one.
Oh, yeah.
We’ve also done the smugglers run ride.
We’ve also done the resistance ride as well.
That’s funny.
Smugglers run is also like a Grand Theft Auto game.
Yeah, it is.
Rockstar game.
But we’re basically flying the Millennium Falcon.
Dude, that’s so cool.
Yeah, Star Wars land is definitely like one of my favorites, which I wasn’t expecting because like, Avengers land, that was that’s like one of my favorites.
But I feel like that’s like, obvious, like superheroes are cool.
Hey, a couple, a couple last time we went there, we actually got a picture with the Scarlet Witch.
Dude, and then they have Spider-Man like jump from the buildings and stuff.
It’s like flying there.
We did the Spider-Man ride as well.
And that one was fun.
It’s web slingers.
Basically, yeah, you’re in front of a like a it’s like a it’s like you’re playing a video game.
You get to blast shoot spider webs at the like, kind of like the robot spiders kind of like the like the Buzz Lightyear one, but with web slingers, and more of like a digital screen instead of like writing through it right.
Over in Tomorrowland, there’s also my other favorite ride.
And that Star Tours.
Oh, yeah.
See, originally, that was like the only Star Wars stuff they had.
Yeah, was the Star Tours.
And that one was cool.
I remember.
I would always go.
Yeah, I love Star Tours.
Even like just in that building.
Like when you walk in line, like you would have like, C-3PO and stuff like talking.
Cool.
All right, so that is the Star Wars chronological order.
And it ends on the Rise of Skywalker.
You think there’s going to be something after the Rise of Skywalker or they’re capping it?
I heard that they’re possibly going to do another trilogy, but I don’t know the details yet.
No way.
This is gonna, it’s never gonna die.
It’s gonna go on forever and ever and ever.
Because there’s way too like, way too many different avenues now, different characters that you can go into their backstories.
All right, so do you want to like, is there like an end like a spoiler at the end?
Like a surprise ending or something?
Because I feel like they usually have twists in these.
Well, one thing I do recall from watching Star Wars Rebels is that the, this rebel band, this band of rebels on the planet, what was it called again?
I forgot what the planet was called.
But the rebel band has Kanan Jarrus, Ezra Bridger, Sabine Rem, and Harrison Dooley.
They receive like information from a contact that they never met in person called Fulcrum.
And Fulcrum is actually Ahsoka, is the rebel contact that they’ve been like receiving messages from.
And then towards the, towards the end of the first season, that’s when they officially get to meet Ahsoka in person.
And it also tells us in the, at the end of the book, how she got that code name and also how she created her new white lightsabers that she uses in, yeah, the white, because the book tells us how she created, it tells us how she created her white lightsabers that she uses in Star Wars Rebels and then in the Ahsoka series as well.
Yeah.
I like how they like have been playing on that.
Like every Jedi has like, or even the Siths have like a new way of making their lightsaber.
Like the, what was the guy that with the mask played by Adam Driver?
Kylo Ren.
Kylo Ren.
Like that guy, didn’t he have to do something with like a red rock or something crazy?
And that’s why his stuff like spits fire on the sides.
It doesn’t spit fire.
It has a laser.
It has the, it has the two sabers on the side, the sides.
But isn’t it because he has like some crazy gem in there or something?
Jedi, Jedi, the Jedi and the Sith create their sabers with crystals, lightsaber crystals.
Yeah.
So his crystal is like, has insane power and that’s why it shoots that way.
Right.
Like, cause even like the texture of it looks more like, like on a fiery and hers looks more like smooth.
So I really like how they play on like the artistry of the lightsaber, like hers being like the white light and then his being like super dark.
And then they would always have, I mean, before it was just like the blue and the red.
Yeah.
The good guys are blue and the bad guys are red.
Yeah.
Well blue and green.
Oh yeah.
Green.
Yeah.
But remember Master Windu’s lightsaber is purple because you know, Samuel, Samuel, cause when they filmed, um, Attack of the Clones, I was watching some behind the scenes footage.
Samuel L. Jackson was like, can I have my lightsaber in purple?
And they did it.
It was a purple saber.
Yeah.
That’s yeah.
And I do remember his being purple and him being like the first one to have a different one.
So I feel like after that it set it off to where like, all right, now everyone’s going to get their own special, like sick lightsaber.
Cause then you had like Darth Maul with a double sided was another huge one.
That one.
And then you have that one with the curve in it, like Count Dooku.
Yeah.
And then like from there it just started going like crazy.
The Inquisitor’s lightsabers are red.
They’re double sided just like Darth Maul’s, but the sabers spin like a fan.
Yeah.
And then they have like those new ones from the Force Awakens where it’s like a nunchuck lightsaber.
Oh yeah.
Like, those are cool.
So now they’re just going everywhere.
Um, what are those people called that, um, like in the final battle of, I think it was the Force Awakens when they’re like going up to, um, I think they’re taking out an Emperor or a Sith or something.
And all these people are dressed in like red cloaks, like helmets and like red cloaks and they have like red spears and everything’s red.
Like the whole thing is like all red.
Um, I don’t know.
They’re supposed to be like Snoke’s guards or something.
Yeah.
Like, are they a special order?
Like, what was the reason for all them being like all red?
I don’t know.
I honestly don’t know about that.
What, like what, um, what book would you read to find that out?
I don’t know.
I don’t know if they, I don’t know if it’s mentioned in any of the books.
The Elite Praetorian Guards.
Like these guys are sick.
This is probably my favorite, like battle scene.
Like these guys, cause they just look so cool.
Like the whole scene was all red and then like they were battling together, like all the red guys.
The Last Jedi.
That’s what it was.
But yeah, his is like, his lightsaber is cool.
All right.
Were there any characters that popped out in the book that you weren’t expecting?
Like any new characters?
Like, did they introduce any new character?
Yeah.
They introduced the farmers that Ahsoka meets on the farming planet of Raeda that she becomes friends with.
Kaiden, Meara, Colvin.
So yeah, those are some new characters.
So for people that are looking for this book, like obviously it talks about Ahsoka, but if I was looking for something in particular, like that I didn’t know about Star Wars, like if there was a hole in my story somewhere that I didn’t really understand, like, why would I pick up this particular section of the story?
I do have another Star Wars novel at home, but I also have a bunch of other Star Wars novels saved on my Amazon wishlist, like right now, like there are three books on Padme.
There’s a book about Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan together.
The one that I have at home is Padawan, which basically tells like the early life of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Okay.
And then there’s also one about Han Solo and Princess Leia.
Right.
And then there’s one more just because you like that character.
So it’s like, if you like that character, find out more about that character, you hear their story.
And there’s also one about Count Dooku as well.
So I guess you’re into like the female Jedis, it seems.
Well, yeah, because Ahsoka is my number one favorite character and not to mention, I also cosplay as Ahsoka.
Awesome.
So, because like, she obviously doesn’t look human.
How do you do that?
She’s a Targaruta character.
Well, I have a cheap, I have like a really bad cheap costume at home that I ordered on Amazon because I wore it for Halloween several years ago.
But I also wore the costume for the Bakersfield Collector Con and Comic-Con.
And you know what?
Wearing that costume is so much fun because many people have gone up to me wanting pictures of me.
It’s like so fun.
Yeah, this one looks sick.
So that headpiece, is that like her hair or like those tentacle looking things?
It’s kind of like her, you could say it’s like her hair, but it’s also like her horns as well, because that’s what Targaruta characters have.
So if you were to like touch them, are they hard or are they like, what’s the texture?
I don’t know.
They should be like soft or something.
Do they move?
Like when she runs or something, like do they move or is it like stiff?
In the cartoon, they move, but in the live action, they’re like stiff.
Interesting.
And I do the face paint makeup as well.
Yeah, because she has like a like red hue to her, like red, orange clay almost.
And she’s got the pottery and she’s got like white tattoos on her face as well.
So there’s a tattoo that’s not like she’s not born with that.
Yeah, she was born with those.
Oh, OK. The Targaruta have those white marks on their face.
All of them.
It’s like tiger stripes.
Well, her hair looks like tiger stripes.
And then it has like cool tribal like on her eyebrows and stuff in her cheeks.
Oh, so what planet would she be from?
She’s from the planet.
She’s from the Targaruta planet Shalai.
Do they have the Wookieepedia?
Oh, yeah, Wookieepedia for the Star Wars characters.
Oh, Star Wars runs so deep.
Oh, geez.
Speaking of Wookiees, Chewbacca is my favorite.
I’ve gotten pictures with him at Disneyland several times.
And Chewie gives the best hugs.
Like seriously.
He has an eight foot fur ball.
He’s like seven foot.
So it says her species, Targaruta.
Her gender is female.
Even has her pronouns, her height, 5’9″.
She’s pretty small.
No, I think 5’9 is kind of tall.
For a girl, yeah, true.
Because with heels on, she’s like six foot.
Her skin color is officially orange with white markings and blue stripes.
She’s from the Jedi Order, Galactic Republic, 501st Legion, the Mandalore Resistance, not from the Mandalorian, I’m assuming.
The Rebel Intelligence, Bail Organa’s Resistance, the Phoenix Cell.
Her master was Anakin Skywalker.
And her apprentice.
She has an apprentice?
Did she?
It says Sabine Wren.
Oh, yeah, because they worked together to go searching for Ezra Bridger in the Ahsoka series.
Wait, Wren.
And she tried to help train Sabine, who’s a Mandalorian warrior, but she also, but Sabine tends to possess like some force sensibility.
So she was training her.
Ask if her parents were Kylo Ren.
No, her parent is not Kylo Ren.
Because Ahsoka was born long before Kylo Ren was, and Kylo Ren is Ben Solo, because you remember he’s Han Solo and Leia’s son.
Because Ahsoka was born long before him.
Yes, Sabine is a human.
Yeah, and she’s from Mandalore.
Everyone on here, like you could follow the whole genealogy, like of everyone’s parents and their master and their apprentice.
Yeah, this Star Wars stuff goes way too deep, man.
It’s never gonna end.
All right, so you said this book was given to you?
No, well, actually, yeah, my mom bought it for me.
I think it was a, I don’t think, I think she bought it for me maybe for like a, maybe Christmas birthday present.
Okay, so do you know if it’s on Amazon still?
It is.
You can still get it on Amazon.
Is it recent?
When was this released?
2016.
Okay, so it’s been a while in this story.
But that’s weird because they did the series now, recently, 2023.
Well, yeah, but the series is taking place after the events of the book.
Because the event, because the story of Ahsoka in the novel, it’s basically her story before she eventually is introduced to us in Star Wars Rebels.
Yeah, we went through that whole chronological order.
So I definitely have my Star Wars facts straight now.
So thank you for that.
So anyone looking forward to more Star Wars stuff, if you want to take a look into Ahsoka’s story, then what’s the name of this book?
It’s called Star Wars Ahsoka by EK Johnson.
If you are massive Star Wars fans like I am, I highly recommend that you go on Amazon and get yourself a copy of the Ahsoka Tano book, since Ahsoka is one of the most beloved Star Wars characters in history.
Yeah, she sounds like a real badass.
She is.
She’s a she is an awesome fighter.
Yeah, some of the clips I’ve seen the animated she gets down.
All right, well, you definitely are.
I would consider you like a super fan at this point.
You do cosplay, you know, all the series, all the movies.
Yeah, I cosplay as Ahsoka.
I cosplay as Padme as well.
I actually was Padme for Halloween twice in a row.
So when I was naming off these chronological order movies and series, was there any that I named that you hadn’t seen yet?
I hadn’t seen Tales of the Jedi.
I haven’t seen Tales of the Empire, Acolyte, I haven’t seen Resistance.
Well, Acolyte’s new.
That’s like brand new.
I haven’t seen Bad Batch either.
Are you going to look into any of those?
Yeah.
See, what I’m going to do is I’m planning to do like a full on Star Wars marathon where I watch like all the series and the films.
It’s going to take you all month.
Now, it’s probably going to take me longer because the series, the series have like more than one season and stuff.
Oh, damn.
Yeah, that’s true.
Clone Wars has seven seasons, Rebels has four seasons.
Seven seasons?
Mandalorian has three seasons.
Yeah, it’s going to take me a long time, but yeah, I’m going to do a full on marathon where I watch all of the series and the films in chronological order.
Good luck.
You’re going to have your plate full.
Yeah, but hey, Phantom Menace, that’s actually my favorite film because I love, because it has Qui-Gon Jinn in it, and he is my other favorite Jedi.
I think I like Revenge of the Sith.
The newer trilogy is pretty cool, but it’s just not the same, I would say.
And then I like the one where they did the racing, was it the Phantom Menace?
The pod racing?
Yeah.
Yeah, that’s Phantom Menace.
Yeah, I like that one because I like young Luke.
No, not young Anakin.
Oh, young Anakin, sorry.
Young Anakin, Skywalker.
Yeah, young Anakin’s cool.
And my favorite part of Phantom Menace is the epic fight between Darth Maul, Qui-Gon, and Obi-Wan.
That is the most iconic lightsaber fight ever.
Yeah, they have some pretty sick lightsabers.
Although I do kind of appreciate the newer lightsaber fights just because I feel like they do more graphically and stuff.
But you can’t really knock the classics.
But if you watch A New Hope and you watch them fight, it does seem kind of slower and cheesier.
Like Darth Vader can barely move, and he’s like, yeah, it seems really slow when they fight.
And Obi-Wan is kind of slow too because he’s older.
Yeah, so it’s like zoom, zoom.
And now it’s like zoom, zoom, zoom.
It’s crazier now.
Graphics and special effects now.
All right, so do you have like a look into next week or your next book that you might be talking about?
The next book is, I’m actually going to be going a little scary this time because we are now in October and Halloween is coming up.
The next book I’m doing, it’s called Secret Admirer by R.L. Stein.
And many of you may recognize this author because he is the famous author who wrote all of the Goosebumps books.
Yeah, I like grew up reading R.L. Stein.
When we used to have to do those elementary like tests where you have to read a book and then do a test to get your points, like your reader points, that’s who I would use, Goosebumps and Captain Underpants because those are the easiest ones.
So I’m looking forward to that one because, yeah, R.L. Stein, I loved Goosebumps.
I had so many growing up, like I had a whole bin that I picked up from a garage sale.
So I could definitely talk about that one for a while.
And I’m curious about how this series ties into Goosebumps.
So looking forward to that one.
And whenever you’re done reading that one, we could talk about R.L. Stein and his series.
What’s called Fear?
It’s called this book is part of a series called Fear Street.
It is not part of Goosebumps because if it was, it probably part of like the TV series as well.
But it’s its own like separate series and it has a bunch of other books in the series as well.
All right.
And do you know any events coming up for CSUB?
Since we are in October, the Safe Halloween event at the Kern County Museum is coming up.
It is October 30th and 31st from five to nine.
And it’s where they decorate the entire museum with all kinds of Halloween decorations.
They do all kinds of cool games.
Kids can go trick or treating, wear all kinds of cool costumes as well.
I remember going.
I went to that event several times when I was younger.
My parents took me there a lot.
Nice.
Yeah.
I’m definitely looking forward to that.
That should be fun.
There’s probably going to be a lot of like Halloween events coming up, I would imagine for different like trick or treating events and like trunk.
Like, have you ever seen those candy trunks where you open up the trunk and you have like candies in the parking lot?
No.
It’s called it’s like a trick or trick or trunk or something like that.
Trunk or tree.
Trunk or tree.
Yeah.
Something like that.
Yeah.
So there’s going to be a bunch of those coming up.
So that should be cool.
I actually am going to be volunteering at the Fall Festival at my church, which we do every year.
And what I’m going to do is I’m going to be running the photo booth there because we set up at my church.
We set up all kinds of fun games.
Kids can get candy.
And then I take the photos with a photo booth that we have set up.
Nice.
So you got the whole backdrop and everything.
Yeah.
We have a backdrop put together and stuff.
People can go in and I take the pictures.
Nice.
All right.
Um, uh, we also have a choir event for the university singers that I’m going to be a part of.
I don’t remember exactly what day it is, but, um, yeah, they told me it’s in October.
So I’m going to have to get a tuxedo, sing in the choir.
It should be fun.
But my professor keeps telling me to like invite students to, to watch.
And I’m like, I don’t think students want to watch choir.
Like only people that will watch choir are people in church and that’s because they have to because they’re already there.
So yeah.
Um, I mean, my parents would probably go, but that’s about it.
I don’t want anyone to go watch me sing.
So don’t go watch the choir, the university singers event.
Just kidding go.
All right.
So signing out, um, the runner on air.
And it has been your sixth episode of this fall 2024 semester.
We be coming to you every Tuesday from here at CSUB.
I’m your host, Jay Cortes.
And I’m your co-host Marina Gonzalez.
And I’ll see you guys next week.
Take care runners.
