Cal State Bakersfield had a Big West Athletic Conference matchup against UC Riverside, who is sitting sixth in the conference.
CSUB had lost in a close game to UC Santa Barbra earlier in the week, so they were ready to go out and get the job done.
The Runners got off to a quick lead which made the crowd go crazy. The Runners were able to hold UC Riverside to only 6 points in the first quarter.
UC Riverside fought their way back in the second quarter making it a very back and forth game. Shaunae Brown hit a huge 3 point shot with less than a minute left to put the Runners in the lead 25-23 at the half.
The third quarter had just been like the rest of the game up until that point being a very back and forth with the Runners still holding the lead by 4 going into the fourth quarter.
The Runners had a tough time in the fourth. With a lot of turnovers and missed baskets, UC Riverside was able to score 20 points in the fourth while CSUB was only able to score 10 with a final score of 48-54.
“They did amazing,” said Tone Serrano, an audience member, about how the Runners performed today.
Even though the Runners lost they still had put up some great numbers with Junior guard Shaunae Brown had 18 points and Senior guard Jordan Olivares had 11 points.
“We need to protect our home floor and they stole one from us,” said Coach Greg McCall on how the Runners lost their lead at the end of the game.
“Towards the end, we got a lot of the shots we wanted to get, we just didn’t hit a lot of the shots,” said Shaunae Brown on about how tough it was losing a game after leading for twenty-eight minutes.
Cal State Bakersfield is going on the road to Cal State Fullerton for their next game where they are hoping they can pull one out.
