The Roadrunners and the Titans were neck to neck on Saturday’s Big West Conference basketball game. With a final score of 73-71, the Roadrunners managed to walk away with a hard-earned victory. Although the game ended with a very close score, it wasn’t like that the entire time.
The game was off to a competitive start with the first half closing with a score of 39-32. The second half picked up right where it left off with the Roadrunners finding a comfortable 12pt lead at one point.
Towards the other half of the game however, the Titans seemed to have caught a second wind. The Titans were able to capitalize on the openings left by the Roadrunners’ defense and almost came back with a 3pt shot at the buzzer.
Throughout the game, junior forward Fidelis Okereke was a crucial presence to the team on and off the court providing support with callouts and even scoring back-to-back slam dunks.
Mia Pesina, a student spectator, said, “I liked it. I wanted Chick-fil-A, but it’s fine”, funnily referring to a fan event that took place during the game.
In a post-game interview, one half of the leading scorers, redshirt junior forward Modestas Kancleris said, “We learn from every game, especially from the close ones.”
This mentality will surely sharpen the teams’ skills going into their next game against CSUN on Thursday, February 15th.
Head coach Rod Barnes said, “We made some bad plays, missed some shots, but I don’t think our attitude of winning changed. To me that’s the most important part.” Overall, CSUB’s Roadrunners performed well in a very difficult game against CSUN’s Titans. Now with a 2-game win streak, CSUB will surely be looking to keep up this momentum for the rest of the season.
