A new hot chicken place opened on Rosedale Highway, bringing a unique flavor to Bakersfield. The grand opening of Houston TX Hot Chicken, or HHC, was Nov. 4, with a car show and a $1,000 competition to whoever ate three of their hottest spice flavors, “Houston We Have a Problem.”
This is not your typical chicken strip and sandwich place. There is more to the restaurant than just serving ordinary, mundane chicken. This is Houston TX Hot Chicken, promising to add a new experience to Bakersfield, with excellent customer service where the workers are also like waiters and an industrial yet hip vibe in the dining area.
“The waffle combo is delicious. It comes with two strips (medium sauce), fries, house sauce, and maple syrup with pickles. This waffle is amazing and is so good with the chicken,” said Adelaida Ramirez, who was dining in on their grand opening Saturday. “I also ordered the cucumber watermelon slushy and it tastes great, and it’s not too expensive, it’s affordable.”
I ordered the spicy two– tender coleslaw combo; the choice of sauce was spicy but comfortable for me to enjoy. The house fries have a special seasoning blend. The cole slaw was crispy and creamy but not heavily or over-sweetened, and the house sauce has a mild kick to it, so it’s pleasant to enjoy. I ordered a cucumber watermelon lemonade for my drink, just right, not over– sweetened. The portions are generous.
Ramon Escalera is the customer experience lead for HHC and was present for the grand opening down on Rosedale Highway. “We have top-tier ingredients here: organic natural chicken, daily freshly made house sauce and nacho cheese sauce. We marinate our chicken forty-eight hours before cooking it. We have state-of-the-art fryers, house-made rubs and sauces, worldwide inspired spices, all brought together in our kitchen to offer to the public” said Escalera.
Cheyanne, the general manager of the Bakersfield location, was busy helping in the kitchen and getting orders out to customers.
“This restaurant has healthy fried chicken. We pride ourselves with providing great vibes, aesthetics in our locations so that customers feel comfortable and welcome. We are exclusive to Bakersfield because it is our second location to open in California, with Fresno being our first,” said Cheyanne.
This chicken place has a unique, delicious flavor in its sauces and spice blends. “Houston, we have a problem” is their hottest sauce, checking in at 2 million on the Scoville heat unit. The food combos pair well with each other. Nothing is over-salted, over-sweetened, or greasy. The spiciness of my strip went well with the cool, crispy cole slaw, and the fries seasoning added just the right amount of flavor that is indescribable, really, but I will say delicious.
I recommend this place highly because of its great service, friendly staff, and some of the best chicken you will taste.
