The Loteria game was an activity of chance that continues the celebration of Latinx Heritage Month.
Loteria night took place on Tuesday, Oct. 3, in the Multipurpose room at the Student Union Hall at California State University Bakersfield. The event featured snacks, drinks, music, and lots of fun energy.
This event was a collaboration between campus staff Including as Alejandro the Vice President of Campus Life; Veronica Catalan, the Director of Campus Programming; Rubicelia Alvarez, Director of Student Involvement. Without their contributions this amazing event would have never existed.
Loteria is a Hispanic version of bingo cards, featuring different objects that are written in Spanish and someone makes sure to read the objects out loud. You look for a row of four tokens diagonally, vertically, or horizontally then call out “Loteria!” The CSUB version had you black out the board, which was a twist on the traditional version.
A selection of snacks and refreshments offered were an array of chips, water, and Jarritos.
This event is one of many held on the CSUB campus during this month, as well as last month, that celebrate the rich heritage of the Latinx community.
