Roadrunners, have you ever wanted to know what it truly means to be a California State University of Bakersfield? Well, the Welcome Back Pep Rally will teach you all you need to know about embracing the Roadrunner spirit.
The Welcome Back Pep Rally, hosted in the Incardo Center on Sept. 6, is the perfect event to learn how to support your Roadrunners on the courts and fields.
The event started with departments such as the Runner Café, Campus Programming, and the Student Recreation Center showing up and giving information to students.
Students could spin the wheel to win prizes, learn about upcoming events, and there was also an inflatable basketball court provided by the SRC, for students to compete with each other on the courts.
Albertsons also showed up as they let students in on a little secret. Students who sign up for Albertsons U and verify that they are a student can save 5% on groceries.
They hosted a giveaway, with the partnership of InternQueen, a program that provides paid ambassador programs and internship advice, to give away $200.00 gift cards to Albertsons.
Outside was all fun and games, but the inside is where the real ‘spirit’ happened.
The Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Wallace, spoke to the crowd about what a Roadrunner is. He spoke about how they don’t back down from a fight; they team up to defend territory, and are not afraid of anything. This was a student’s encouragement to show the crowd how powerful the CSUB Roadrunners can be.
The event was MC’d by Arthur Smith, CSUB Athletics Department of Marketing and Fan Engagement, and he got the crowd loud, introduced us to the public speakers, and modeled how excited Roadrunners should be while they attend any CSUB game.
“When anyone comes to this blue court… we want them to know they are in trouble.” Said Smith. Smith explained that the students are the ones who give the spirit and can make the other teams break a sweat.
As the event went on, students were thrown CSUB swag from the dance and spirit team, enjoyed the band as they showcased the CSUB fight song, learned the common chants, and sang the CSUB song.
Kyle Conder, the CSUB Sports Director, closed the event in thanks to all those who showed up to show their support for the student athletes.
“This is your house… when a teams come… they know that they are going to walk out of here with a loss… the only way to make that happen is with your support.” Said Conder.
