California State University, Bakersfield sororities are ready to welcome new sisters into their Greek organizations. In college, getting involved and making friends can be difficult, but when you “Go Greek” you have an opportunity to give back, join in on community service, and create a strong bond with like-minded people.
To join a Greek organization, you must go through a recruitment process. This is a time to meet with every sorority and get a feel for what they are about. Vice versa, the organizations are also getting to know who you are, what your personality is, and if you sound like a good fit to join the sisterhood.
This process starts by meeting with all the sororities and bidding on your top two. The second day consists of a more detailed and comprehensive look into the two sororities you want to join. The last night is invitation only from the sororities that are interested in you. The following day, you will receive a bid from the sorority that you matched with if they want to extend an offer.
Recruitment will take place at the CSUB Student Union at 5:30 p.m. from Sept. 6 through 8. Students can sign up to take part in the Greek recruitment by signing up at csub.mycampusdirector2.com.
Now, let’s get into the three sororities that students have an opportunity to get to know and potentially join. Each sorority follows a different mission and participates in important social events each year.
Here is all the advice, tips, and information you should know prior to going through the recruitment process.

Q: There are many stereotypes surrounding Greek life. What can you say regarding the stigma around Greek Organizations?
A: In regard to the stigma, we are nothing like what is portrayed. We focus on our studies, being inclusive, and altogether being United as one. We also have a quote we like to use which is “These hands don’t Haze” because that is one of the most asked questions due to what has been shown in movies etc.
Q: What are your organization’s biggest events during the year, and why is this event important?
A: Our biggest event is recruitment because it is the time, we get to welcome students and help them find what they are missing. It also gives an opportunity to not only our members but also students to network around campus and get familiar with each other.
Q: What is your advice for students who go through the recruitment process?
A: Some advice I would give to students going through the recruitment process is to be themselves and have fun. If they do these things, they will have the best experience and make some great connections along the way.

Q: What’s your advice for students who go through the recruitment process?

Each sorority has different goals, experiences, and values, and during recruitment, you might just find your new family.
Students who are going through the recruitment process should know that there is a one-time recruitment fee as well as a sorority fee that varies each semester. The Greek organizations do their best to make them affordable to students and they have payment plans, or scholarship for qualified members.
Students who do not sign up prior to the start of recruitment may attend on Sept. 6, and contact the Greek advisor upon arrival. Students that miss recruitment often time have another opportunity to join during open bidding. Keep an eye out for the Greek organizations at events where they possibly can extend an offer towards students who they feel like belong.
