Career Day began early in the morning at 10 to 2 on Wed, April 16, 2014 at the Runner Café Quad. It was a bright clear sky, suitable weather for a student to meet potential employers and get hired on the spot.
Many companies and organizations attended Career Day at California State University of Bakersfield, such as Bolthouse Farms, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Panda Express, Ikea and OXY, just to name a few.
Some companies were there to seek volunteers, recruit candidates, and to promote their businesses.
The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network is a nonprofit organization working in prioritizing cancer issues at national levels. It is an affiliate of American Cancer Society.
Currently ACS CAN is seeking volunteers to help at Relay For Life, which will take effect on May 3.
Stephanie Baker, a volunteer and cancer survivor at ACS CAN, said that, “ACS CAN is the political side of American Cancer Society. They go out and fight for the laws to change through the legislatures.”
ACS CAN provides agendas and background on laws that are backed by them. One of the laws that ACS CAN helped make was the smoking ban inside businesses.
If you would like more information or would like to volunteer, you can sign up on their webpage.
The Boys and Girls club is also looking for volunteers who would like to be mentors.
APPLUS oil and gas service company is an international company from the Netherlands. They support 450 employers in California.
An APPLUS employee said, “What we are looking for here specifically is to have a math and science background. Work is safety related, we test the integrity of pipelines.”
IKEA has several positions available. IKEA employee Connie Martinez said the company is seeking to fill a supervisory position.
Among the companies at Career Day was ASPIRAnet.
Amber Nichols, clinical director for ASPIRAnet said that the company is “a Foster Family owned agency, and [they] work with foster families, adopted families, birth families,” and also maintain “a mental health program.”
Career Day at CSUB is a great way to meet potential employers, find information of agencies and expand your horizons beyond Bakersfield.
