Five fall favorites from Trader Joe’s

Baylie Ruiz, Features Writer

Everyone loves when seasonal flavors come around but hate to see them go. When I think of fall, I automatically think of pumpkins, squash, and spices. These three flavors mix and complement one another so well.

  1. Pumpkin ravioli: This ravioli is filled with a cheesy pumpkin filling. When I tasted it, the cheese flavor was not prominent. The filling tasted like a pumpkin pie, a sweet contrast to other pastas. It paired well with a honey butter glaze and would go well with a side salad or a vegetable.

  2. Butternut Squash Ravioli: This ravioli was a little thinner than the pumpkin ravioli. I also paired this ravioli with a honey butter glaze, which made it too sweet for me. The butternut squash ravioli would have been better paired with a savory red or white sauce to contrast the flavor. Along with adding a sauce, it would go well with grilled chicken to make an easy go-to lunch or dinner.
  3. Butternut Squash Macaroni and Cheese Balls: I have become obsessed with macaroni and cheese balls since I tried them at ‘Eureka!’, a restaurant down the street from CSUB. I recently found macaroni and cheese balls at Trader Joe’s and had to try them. The next time I returned, I found these butternut squash macaroni and cheese balls. It is safe to say that neither of them disappointed. The butternut squash macaroni and cheese balls did not have a strong taste of the squash, which I appreciated. The center was gooey and soft while the outside still had that good crunch.
  4. Maple Walnut Biscotti: This biscotti has a mix of two sweet flavors, so if you do not like items with an overly sweet taste, this may not be for you. The biscotti has a nice crunch with a sweet taste. The biscotti has walnut chunks inside which gives a soft contrast to the crunch of the biscotti. This would pair great with black coffee if you wanted a sweet treat to go with it.
  5. Chocolate Mousse Pumpkins: If pumpkin or squash isn’t your thing and you love chocolate, this would be your dessert. These are good remedies to cure your sweet tooth if you want something small. This pumpkin-shaped treat has a layer of fluffy chocolate cake with an airy chocolate mousse to complement it. This cake would pair well with your favorite ice cream or even a glass of your preferred milk, whether it be oat or almond.
