A grand total of $27,088 for new Hydration Stations was unanimously approved by the Associated Students Inc. to create a green campus in last Friday’s meeting.
Hydration Stations will feature the classic water fountain with a snazzy new fit on top that allows students to refill reusable water bottles. The stations will have a counter on top that shows how many bottles are being saved. The new stations will conserve water and provide students, filtered, refrigerated water and a more green focused campus.
The final locations of the stations has not yet been approved, however the budget compensates for at least 20 stations over existing locations of the current out of date fountains. The company that makes the stations guarantees that they will last 15-20 years.
The funds for the project will cost a total of $27, 088. The Greenovation Grant, which is a special sustainability grant provided to projects in the CSU system, awarded CSUB ASI $1000 toward the stations. The remaining funds and there values are as follows: $577 from the line item sustainability, $3000 to come from the line item Special Projects, and $22,511 from Reserves line item entitled “Reserves: Capital Enhancement and Replacement.”
The next item on the agenda was a proposal from M.E.Ch.A asking funding for the Cinco De Mayo Celebration. The Director of the event, Maribel Garcia, a 21-year-old kinesiology major, presented the proposal.
The total amount being asked for was $2,790, of which $750 goes to performer/honorarium fee, $140 for rental charges, $100 for promotion and publicity, $1200 for food and catering, $500 for supplies and services and $100 for university services.
The event will take place over four days starting Monday May 5th through Friday, with no events taking place on Thursday.
“Were doing a car wash Sunday to raise additional fees for prizes,” Garcia said. Among those prizes will be a Starbucks gift card.
The next ASI meeting will be at 3:15 p.m. on Friday in the Multi-Purpose room in the Student Union.
