Black History Month Kickoff at CSUB

California State University, Bakersfield will celebrate Black History Month with a series of virtual events commemorating the achievements, culture and contributions of Black people. To kick off the events for the month ahead, The Black Faculty and Staff Association will be holding a virtual kickoff event Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 11:30 a.m.
During this event, there will be a warm welcome from Lynnette Zelezny, CSUB President, meeting Black Faculty and Staff on campus, as well as meeting the student leaders of the Black Student Union. All presenters will be given a chance to participate in a Q&A with the participants. The event will be hosted by the BSFA co-chairs Tamar Anthony and Darius Riggins as well as presenters Sandra Bozarth, EJ Callan, Rechima Dean, Rhonda Dugan and Vernon Harper.
This month-long observance in the U.S is a chance to celebrate Black excellence and provide a reminder of where systemic racism persists while giving visibility to the people and organizations creating change.
The Black Faculty and Staff Association at CSUB specialize in supporting community and justice for all individuals. Their mission statements are to:
-Support strong faculty and staff working relationships
-Cultivate and promote reciprocal relationships between CSUB and the community
-Facilitate the recruitment, retention and graduation of students
